Game server hosting with no contract means you pay month to month and can cancel whenever you want, without a minimum term, a cancellation fee or a support ticket. It suits friend groups well, because nobody knows whether a game will hold the group's attention for two months or two years. On GamezServers every plan is monthly with no contract, you cancel from your dashboard, and the server keeps running until the end of the month you paid for.
Short answer: what to check before you buy
- Billing period. Monthly by default, with longer terms optional, not required.
- Minimum term. There should not be one.
- How to cancel. A button in your account, not an email or a chat.
- What happens after cancelling. The server should run until the end of the paid period.
- Setup fees. None.
- Renewal price. The price after any intro discount should be clear before you pay.
- Your data. You should be able to download your world before you leave.
Why contracts are a bad fit for game servers
Gaming groups move fast. A new game launches, a big update lands, someone goes on holiday, exams start, the group drifts to a different game. A server you are locked into for 6 or 12 months turns into a bill for a world nobody visits.
Longer terms can be good value if you are sure, but they should be a choice, not the only option.
Things to look for, in detail
Monthly billing as the default
The price you see should be the monthly price, charged monthly. Watch for prices shown "per month" that are only available if you pay a year up front.
On GamezServers every server is a monthly subscription through Stripe. You pay for the first month at checkout and are charged the same amount on the same day each month. Yearly billing is also available if you want it: it costs the same as 10 months, so 2 months are free. It is optional.
Cancellation you can do yourself
The best test of a no contract host: can you cancel at 2am without talking to anyone?
On GamezServers you open Billing on your dashboard and cancel the server's subscription in the Stripe portal. There is nothing to fill in and no one to contact. Full steps in billing and cancellation.
The server runs until the end of the paid period
Cancelling should stop the next charge, not delete your world on the spot. After you cancel on GamezServers:
- You are not charged again for that server.
- The server keeps running until the end of the period you already paid for, so your group can keep playing.
- When the period ends, the server shows as Cancelled on your dashboard.
If you run several servers, cancelling one does not affect the others.
Clear pricing with no setup fees
Check that the price at checkout matches the price on the plan, and that there is no separate setup fee. On GamezServers prices are about 2.50 USD per GB of RAM a month, shown on each game page and at checkout, with no setup fee. New customers get 50% off the first month, and the normal monthly price is shown up front.
| Plan size | Monthly price | Example games |
|---|---|---|
| 2 GB | 4.99 USD | Minecraft, Terraria, Factorio |
| 4 GB | 9.99 USD | Valheim, Counter-Strike 2 |
| 8 GB | 19.99 USD | Project Zomboid, Rust, Satisfactory |
| 12 GB | 29.99 USD | Enshrouded, 7 Days to Die, Palworld |
| 16 GB | 39.99 USD | ARK: Survival Ascended, Palworld |
Flexibility without cancelling
Sometimes the right move is not cancelling, it is changing:
- Change plan in Settings when the group grows or shrinks. The difference is prorated.
- Switch the server to another game with a same memory plan when the group moves on, with the old world backed up first. See one game server for multiple games.
- Split the bill so the cost per person is small enough that nobody minds keeping it. See game server hosting you can split with friends.
No contract on a split server
If you split the bill with Server Share, each friend has their own share and their own way out. Every friend gets a private link in their receipt email to manage or cancel their share. If someone leaves, the remaining payers cover their part so the server keeps running, their shares can rise up to the full server price, they are emailed first, and the change applies from a renewal at least 7 days away. When someone new joins, shares go back down.
Nobody is locked in, and one person leaving does not switch the server off for everyone else.
Before you cancel: keep your world
- Press Backup in the control panel.
- Download the save folder through the file manager, or with SFTP for big worlds. How to move your world to a hosted server lists the save folder for each game.
- Store the download somewhere safe.
If the group comes back months later, order a new server and upload the save.
