How to join your 7DTD server

  1. 1

Launch 7 Days to Die on the same game version as your server.

  2. 2

Click Join a Game from the main menu.

  3. 3

Click Connect to IP, enter the server IP and port, and click Connect.

  4. 4

Type the server password if you set one. Friends can also find the server by name in the server browser.

Common problems

IP and port go in separate boxes

Type the part of the address before the colon as the IP, and the number after it as the port.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 90 minutes with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Mods and plugins

Modding your 7DTD server

Mods go in the Mods folder in the server directory. Server side modlets that only change XML, such as loot, zombie or recipe tweaks, are downloaded to players automatically when they join. Mods that add DLL code or new assets, including the big overhauls, must be installed by every player too, and usually need Easy Anti-Cheat turned off.

About

7 Days to Die server hosting, explained

7 Days to Die is a survival game where every seventh night brings a blood moon horde, so a dedicated server matters more than in most co-op games: the world keeps its day counter, your base and everything you looted even when the host is offline. Players can log in on their own schedule, and nobody has to leave their PC running for the group.

The dedicated server installs through SteamCMD as app ID 294420 and is configured in serverconfig.xml. That file sets the world (the handmade Navezgane map or a random generated world with its own seed and size), difficulty, blood moon frequency and horde size, loot abundance, player limits, the server password and the web dashboard. Most changes need a restart, and a new world seed or size means generating a fresh map.

It is also one of the more demanding survival servers. Random generated worlds, a high zombie count and overhaul mods such as Darkness Falls all push RAM and CPU use up, and single core speed matters more than core count. Plan for 8 GB on a vanilla world with friends and 12 to 16 GB for big modded or public servers. On our plans you can change these settings from the panel and upgrade later without losing the world.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do big mods need more RAM?

Yes. Overhaul mods run best on 12 GB or more.

Can I change the blood moon frequency and horde size?

Yes. Blood moon frequency, range, warning and enemy count are all server settings. Change them and restart, no new world needed.

Can I use a random generated world?

Yes. Set the world to random generation and pick a seed and size. Bigger worlds take longer to generate on first start and use more RAM.

Do players need to install mods to join?

Not for XML only modlets, which are sent to players when they connect. Overhauls like Darkness Falls and any mod with custom code must be installed by every player.

Can I move my single player or co-op world to the server?

Yes. Upload the save folder and the matching generated world, then point the server config at the same world and game name.

Do my friends need to own the game?

Yes. Each player needs their own copy of 7 Days to Die on the same version as the server. The server itself needs no license.

Are your servers protected from DDoS attacks?

Yes. Every server on every plan sits behind always on DDoS protection at no extra cost, so attacks and booters do not knock your group offline.

When can I get help?

Any time. Support is 24/7, and the people answering run game servers every day. Email support@gamezservers.com whenever you need us.

Will my server lag?

Our servers run on fast game hardware on low latency networks for smooth, low ping play. If your group grows or adds heavy mods, upgrade in one click and keep your world.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
