How to join your ARK server

Launch ARK: Survival Ascended and click Join Game.

Switch the list to Unofficial and turn on Show Player Servers.

Search for the server name and click Join. Enter the password if you set one.

On PC you can also open the console and type open followed by your address, for example open 203.0.113.10:7777.

Common problems

Cannot find the server

Set the list to Unofficial and turn on Show Player Servers. A new server can take a few minutes to appear.

Joining from the PC console

Press Tab on the main menu, paste the open command from this page and press Enter.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 90 minutes with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your ARK server

Survival Ascended mods come from CurseForge. Add each mod ID to the server and it downloads the mods on start, then players pick them up automatically when they join, including on console for cross platform mods.

ARK: Survival Ascended server hosting, explained

An ARK: Survival Ascended dedicated server is the ArkAscendedServer program installed through SteamCMD, started with the map name and a string of options such as the session name, passwords and port. Hosting a non dedicated session from your game only works while you are playing and keeps everyone tethered to the host, so tribes that want dinos to keep breeding, crops to grow and the world to stay online use a dedicated server.

Most of the fun lives in two ini files. GameUserSettings.ini holds the common rates such as XP, taming speed, harvest amount and day length, while Game.ini covers the deeper tuning like per level stat multipliers and breeding intervals. Clusters let players carry characters and dinos between maps, with one server running per map and all of them sharing a cluster ID and folder.

ARK is one of the heaviest survival servers there is. The Island needs around 8 to 10 GB of memory with nobody online, and bases, tamed dinos and mods push that higher over time, which is why 12 GB is the realistic floor and 16 GB suits most tribes. The official server only runs on Windows, so Linux hosts run it through a compatibility layer. With us that part is already handled and your rates are editable from simple menus.

Why does ARK need so much RAM?

Survival Ascended is one of the heaviest servers around. 16 GB is the sweet spot for most tribes.

Can I run a cluster?

Yes. Run one server per map and link them from the dashboard.

Can console players join?

Yes. Survival Ascended servers are cross platform, so Xbox and PlayStation players can find your server under Unofficial with Show Player Servers turned on. Any mods you add need to support console too.

How do I add CurseForge mods?

Copy the project ID from each mod page on CurseForge, add the IDs in the panel and restart. The server downloads them and players get them when they join.

Can I change taming and XP rates?

Yes. Rates live in GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini, and the most common ones are editable from the panel without opening a file.

Can I move a save from another server?

Yes. Upload the SavedArks folder for your map and it loads on the next start. Single player saves can move too, but the host character usually needs to be recreated, so back up first.

Are your servers protected from DDoS attacks?
