What comes set up on a Mumble server

Lower latency than Discord

Mumble is built for gaming voice: small packets, no mixing in the cloud, under 50 milliseconds on a good connection.

Private by design

No accounts, no data mining, no bots. A join password and your own channels, on a server nobody else is on.

Positional audio

With a supported game, friends sound like they are where they stand. Arma, Squad and many more have plugins.

How to join your Mumble server

  1. 1

Install Mumble from mumble.info on PC, Mac or Linux, or Mumla on Android and Mumble on iOS.

  2. 2

Open it and choose Server, then Connect, then Add New.

  3. 3

Enter 203.0.113.24 as the address and 64738 as the port, pick any label and your username, and press OK, then Connect.

  4. 4

Enter the join password if the owner set one. On a first connection Mumble asks about the server certificate: accept it.

Common problems

Becoming admin

Connect once more with the username SuperUser and the admin password from your panel. Right click the root channel to add channels, then right click a friend and give them admin so you never need SuperUser again.

Phones

Mumla on Android and Mumble on iOS connect the same way, address and port. Both are free.

Positional audio

Turn it on under Settings, Audio Output in Mumble. The game needs a Mumble plugin or built in support, which Arma, Squad, DayZ mods and Minecraft mods have.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Mumble server hosting, explained

Mumble is free, open source voice chat made for gamers. It focuses on one thing, clear voice with as little delay as possible, and leaves out everything that slows Discord down: no accounts, no video, no bots, no text channels full of memes. You connect to an address, you talk. That is why milsim groups, competitive clans and anyone who cares about latency never left it.

A Mumble server, also called Murmur, is small enough to run on almost anything, so the question is never memory but how many people can be connected at once. Our plans go from 16 to 64 slots, with a join password so only your group gets in, a SuperUser admin login for making channels and giving friends admin rights, and a welcome message everyone sees when they connect. It runs around the clock, with DDoS protection, and your game servers can sit right next to it.

Mumble also does positional audio: with a supported game, voices come from where players stand. Arma 3 and Reforger, Squad, Hell Let Loose and many others have plugins or mods, which is why it is the voice server most military sim groups choose. Add one to any game server at checkout and the first 30 days are free.

Common questions

How much does a Mumble server cost?

Mumble servers start at $0.75 for 3 days, with no subscription. Monthly plans are 16 slots at $2.99, 32 slots at $4.99 and 64 slots at $7.99. Pay monthly or prepaid, split the bill with friends, and cancel any time.

Is Mumble better than Discord for gaming?

For voice, usually yes. Mumble has lower latency, higher quality audio without a paid tier, positional audio in supported games and no accounts or data collection. Discord wins on everything that is not voice: text, video, screen sharing and finding people.

Do my friends need an account?

No. They install Mumble, enter the address and port and pick a username. A certificate made by Mumble on their PC is their identity.

How many people can talk at once?

As many as your plan has slots: 16, 32 or 64 people connected at the same time. You can upgrade any time from your dashboard.

How do I make channels and admins?

Connect as SuperUser with the admin password from your panel. Right click the root channel to add channels, and right click a user to register them and give them admin. After that your own account can manage everything.

Can I run it next to my game server?

Yes. Add a Mumble server at checkout on games like Arma Reforger, DayZ, Rust and Squad, and it is free for the first 30 days. It runs as its own server in your dashboard and is cancelled with the game server if you ever leave.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Mumla on Android and Mumble on iOS are free and connect with the same address and port.

What is positional audio?

With a supported game, Mumble places each voice where that player is standing, so you hear the person on your left from the left. Arma, Squad, DayZ and Minecraft have plugins or mods for it.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.

Can I pay yearly?

Yes. Pick Yearly on any plan: per day it costs 34% less than paying monthly. Your first yearly subscription also gets 50% off your first year. Already paying monthly? Switch to yearly from the control panel of your server.

Your Mumble server is a minute away
