How to join your Terraria server
- 1
Launch Terraria, or tModLoader for a modded server, on the same version as your server.
- 2
Click Multiplayer, then Join via IP.
- 3
Pick your character, then enter the server IP, the part of the address before the colon.
- 4
Enter the port, the number after the colon, then the server password if it has one.
Common problems
IP and port go in separate screens
Terraria asks for the IP first and the port on the next screen. Do not type the colon.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 90 minutes with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Mods and plugins
Modding your Terraria server
Vanilla Terraria has no mod support, so modded servers run tModLoader, the free official modding platform. Choose tModLoader in the panel, add your mods, and players join through tModLoader with the same mods, which it can download for them when they connect.
About
Terraria server hosting, explained
A Terraria dedicated server keeps your world online so friends can dig, build and fight bosses whenever they like, without the host keeping the game open through Host and Play. Characters stay with each player, while the world, its houses, chests and boss progress live on the server.
The vanilla server is a free download from terraria.org that runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. It is set up through serverconfig.txt, which picks the world file, creates a new world of a set size and difficulty, and sets the player limit, port, password and message of the day. It listens on TCP port 7777 by default and supports up to 255 players, although most groups are 4 to 16. For mods you run the tModLoader server instead, which uses the same config format.
Terraria is light compared to most survival games, so vanilla servers run comfortably on 2 GB. Large worlds, events with lots of enemies and especially big mods like Calamity raise memory use quickly, which is where 4 to 6 GB earns its keep. With us you switch between vanilla and tModLoader from the panel and keep backups of your world before every boss.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Is 2 GB enough?
For vanilla with a few friends, yes. Modded worlds like Calamity want 4 GB or more.
Can I upload my existing world?
Yes. Upload the .wld file from your Terraria Worlds folder and select it as the server world. Your character stays on your own PC.
Can I run Calamity and other mods?
Yes. Switch the server to tModLoader, add your mods, and join through tModLoader. Calamity and bigger mod lists run best on 4 to 6 GB.
Can console or mobile players join?
No. This server runs the PC version of Terraria, so players on PC join. Console and mobile versions use their own multiplayer.
How many players can join?
Up to 255 in theory. In practice 8 to 16 players is common, and plans are sized around that.
Why does it say my version is wrong?
Players and the server must run the same Terraria version. After a game patch, update the server from the panel so it matches what your players have.
Are your servers protected from DDoS attacks?
Yes. Every server on every plan sits behind always on DDoS protection at no extra cost, so attacks and booters do not knock your group offline.
When can I get help?
Any time. Support is 24/7, and the people answering run game servers every day. Email support@gamezservers.com whenever you need us.
Will my server lag?
Our servers run on fast game hardware on low latency networks for smooth, low ping play. If your group grows or adds heavy mods, upgrade in one click and keep your world.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
