What comes set up on a Core Keeper server

Past the 8 player limit

A game hosted from the client stops at 8. The dedicated server takes up to 100, set right in the panel.

Join with a Game ID

Players paste a Game ID instead of an IP, and you can fix the ID in the panel so it never changes on restart.

Normal or hard world

Pick World Mode before the world is made: hard mode makes enemies tougher for groups that want a fight.

mod.io mods on the server

Run mods like CoreLib and Enemy Health Bars from the server's Mods folder, matched by every player.

How to join your Core Keeper server

  1. 1

Start the server and copy the Game ID from the console or from GameID.txt in the file manager.

  2. 2

Launch Core Keeper and choose Join Game.

  3. 3

Pick Join With Game ID, paste the ID and press join.

  4. 4

Make sure you have the same mods installed as the server if it runs any.

Common problems

Game ID changed after a restart? Set a fixed Game ID in the panel, 28 letters and numbers long, so your friends' saved ID keeps working.

Mods don't sync. The server loads mods from its own Mods folder and players have to install the exact same mods and versions from mod.io.

Mods with art need Linux bundles. Mods that add items or visuals only load on the server if the author ships a Linux asset bundle. Script only mods usually work.

Copy the Game ID from GameID.txt in the file manager or from the console after the server finishes starting.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your Core Keeper server

Core Keeper has official mod support through mod.io. The server loads mods from its local Mods folder, so upload them with SFTP and have every player install the same list.

Core Keeper server hosting, explained

Core Keeper is a top down mining sandbox set in a huge underground world. You dig tunnels, farm, cook, build bases and fight bosses to wake the ancient Core, and later updates added mounts to ride through it. Hosting from the game client caps you at eight players, but the dedicated server raises that to 100, which is how bigger groups and community servers share one cavern while everyone digs toward a different biome.

With a dedicated server the world doesn't vanish when the host goes to bed. Players log in at any hour, keep their farms going and pick up where they left off. The panel covers the world name, world index and seed, the player cap, auto update and World Mode, which makes a new world normal or hard. Players connect with a Game ID instead of an IP, and you can set a fixed one so it survives restarts.

Mods are official now, published on mod.io and built with the game's mod SDK. The server doesn't pull them from mod.io itself: you upload them into its Mods folder and every player installs the same mods. Mods that add visuals need a Linux build from their author to load on the server. Bringing an existing world is easy too, upload the save and point the world index at it.

Core Keeper is fairly gentle on memory. What grows is the explored map, so a world with several biomes dug out and big automated farms gets heavier over time. A group of up to eight runs on 4 GB, 6 to 8 GB suits a dozen or more regulars or a late game world, and 12 GB is for an open community server.

Common questions

How many players can join a Core Keeper dedicated server?

Up to 100, set with Max Players in the panel. A world hosted from the game client is limited to 8, so the dedicated server is the way to go bigger.

How do players connect to a Core Keeper server?

With the Game ID. Copy it from the console or GameID.txt, then players choose Join Game and Join With Game ID. No IP or port forwarding needed.

Why does my Game ID change?

If the Game ID setting is empty, the server makes a new one. Enter your own 28 character ID in the panel to keep it fixed.

Can I run mods on a Core Keeper server?

Yes. Download mods from mod.io, upload them to the server's Mods folder and restart. Every player needs the same mods, since nothing downloads them on join.

Can I make the world hard mode?

Yes. Set World Mode to hard in the panel before the world is created. Agree on it with your group first, since enemies get much tougher.

Can I bring my existing single player world?

Yes. Upload the save with the file manager or SFTP and set World Index to its slot. Take a backup before you swap worlds.

What happens when Core Keeper updates?

Leave Auto Update on and the server installs the new build when it restarts, so it matches what players run. Take a backup before big content updates.

How much RAM does a Core Keeper server need?

4 GB covers up to eight players. Bigger groups and long running worlds with lots of explored map should move to 6 or 8 GB.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Core Keeper?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Core Keeper server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
