Built for worlds with more than your best friends
Admin tools, nothing for players to install
A plain vanilla server trusts everyone who knows the password. TShock gives you control instead: every player can have an account, every account sits in a group, and groups decide who can build, teleport, spawn items or ban. Players join with regular Terraria on the same version as the server.
TShock 6 supports Terraria 1.4.5. Switch between Vanilla, tModLoader and TShock from the panel whenever your plans change.
Claim the server with your setup code
Start the server once and the Console tab shows a setup code, also saved in tshock/setup-code.txt. Join, type /setup with that code, then /user add YourName YourPassword owner, /login, and /setup again to close the door behind you.
Lost your admin account later? The console in the panel always has full rights, so user group YourName owner puts you back in charge without touching a file.
Groups, regions and bans for public worlds
TShock ships groups from guest and default up through vip, newadmin, admin, trustedadmin and owner. Make your own small ones, like builder with tshock.world.modify, on top of a built in parent. Set RequireLogin in tshock/config.json and nobody builds until they /register and /login.
Protect spawn and bases with /region set 1, /region set 2 and /region define, then let friends in with /region allow. When someone griefs, /ban add Name Griefing 7d bans by account, UUID and IP in one go, and every ban gets a ticket you can lift later.
Plugins in ServerPlugins, safely
TShock plugins are .dll files. Upload them to ServerPlugins in the Files tab or over SFTP, restart, and check the console to see them load. Only use plugins built for your TShock version, since an outdated plugin is the usual reason a TShock server stops on startup after an update. Click Backup first and roll back in one click if a plugin misbehaves.
The panel keeps the daily jobs to a button, including TShock: make it noon and TShock: ban player.

How to join your Terraria server
- 1
Launch Terraria, or tModLoader for a modded server, on the same version as your server.
- 2
Click Multiplayer, then Join via IP.
- 3
Pick your character, then enter
203.0.113.24as the IP. - 4
Enter
7777as the port, then the server password if it has one.
Common problems
IP and port go in separate screens
Terraria asks for the IP first and the port on the next screen. Do not type the colon.
Modded server will not let you in
Join a tModLoader server from tModLoader, not regular Terraria, and on the same tModLoader version as the server. tModLoader downloads the server's mods when you connect.
TShock asks you to log in
TShock servers can require an account. Type /register with a password in chat, then /login. The owner gets full rights with the one time /setup code shown in the server console on the first start.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Common questions
Do players need mods to join a TShock server?
No. That is the point of TShock. Players use regular Terraria on the same version as the server.
Which plan do I need?
Starter with 2 GB is plenty for TShock with a group of friends, up to 8 players. Standard with 4 GB holds up to 16 players and suits a community world, and Pro with 6 GB holds up to 32.
Can I run Calamity on TShock?
No. TShock runs vanilla gameplay with admin tools and cannot load tModLoader mods. For Calamity, switch the server type to tModLoader.
Where do I find the setup code?
In the Console tab the first time TShock starts, and in tshock/setup-code.txt. It stops showing once a user account exists and setup is finished.
Can I upload my existing world?
Yes. Stop the server, upload the .wld file into the server folder, set World name to the file name without .wld and start. Characters stay on each player's PC.
Why can new players not build?
They are not logged in and the guest group cannot build, they are near protected spawn, or the area is a region. Ask them to /register and /login, or give their group tshock.world.modify.
Is 2 GB enough?
For vanilla with a few friends, yes. Modded worlds like Calamity want 4 GB or more.
Can I upload my existing world?
Yes. Stop the server and upload the .wld file from your Terraria Worlds folder into saves/Worlds (vanilla and tModLoader) or the server folder (TShock). Set World name to the file name without .wld and start. Your character stays on your own PC.
Can I run Calamity and other mods?
Yes. Switch the server to tModLoader, upload the .tmod files to the mods folder, list them in mods/enabled.json and restart. Players join through tModLoader. Calamity and bigger mod lists run best on 4 to 6 GB.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
