What comes set up on a Avorion server

Galaxy that keeps going

Stations keep producing and the galaxy keeps saving while players are away, so an alliance's work never waits on one PC.

Difficulty and damage

Pick a difficulty from -3 to 3, scale collision damage and choose whether everyone starts in the same sector.

Workshop mods

Add Workshop IDs to modconfig.lua and the server downloads them, then sends them to players when they connect.

More threads as it grows

Raise the Threads setting when many sectors are active, so a busy galaxy keeps updating smoothly.

How to join your Avorion server

  1. 1

    Launch Avorion and click Multiplayer.

  2. 2

Choose Join via IP, enter 203.0.113.24 and click Join. Use Add Server to keep it in your list.

  3. 3

Or open Browse Servers and search for your server's name if it is listed publicly.

  4. 4

Pick or create your character and start in the galaxy.

Common problems

Join via IP needs the address with its port. Enter 203.0.113.24 exactly as shown in your panel, not just the IP.

Players disconnected with a mod mismatch? Clients get server mods automatically, but must restart Avorion after the server's mod list changes.

Admin commands need your SteamID64 in the Your Steam ID setting. Find it at steamid.io and restart the server.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your Avorion server

Avorion has a large Steam Workshop scene, from quality of life tools to new ship systems. Server mods are listed in modconfig.lua and pushed to players when they join.

Avorion server hosting, explained

Avorion is a space sandbox where you build ships block by block, then mine, salvage, trade, fight pirates and the Xsotan, and push toward the galaxy's center past the barrier. Multiplayer can be co-op, with an alliance sharing ships, stations and money, or competitive, with factions fighting over territory and trade routes. A galaxy with a few hundred hours in it is a real investment, and that is what a dedicated server protects.

When a player hosts, the galaxy stops when they leave, and alliance stations stop producing. A dedicated server keeps the galaxy simulating and saving, so anyone in the group can log in and keep working. Small friend groups run co-op galaxies, and larger communities run public servers with PvP rules, events and their own mod lists. Our servers start at 10 player slots, and the game handles more than that.

From the panel you set the galaxy and server name, your Steam ID as admin, max players, difficulty, collision damage, same start sector, save interval, thread count, public listing and the beta branch. Workshop mods go in modconfig.lua inside the galaxy folder, and server.ini holds deeper settings. Admins run commands like /help, /kick and /ban in chat, and one click backups keep a copy before big mod changes.

Galaxies get heavier as players explore, because every active sector with its ships and stations adds load. 4 GB covers a few friends early on. A full 10 player group exploring widely should use 8 GB. Big groups, old galaxies or mod heavy setups do better on 12 GB, and the Threads setting lets the server use more CPU as the galaxy grows.

Common questions

How many players can an Avorion server hold?

The server starts at 10 slots, and you can raise it up to 64 in the panel. More players means more active sectors, so plan memory accordingly.

Can I use Workshop mods?

Yes. Add the Workshop IDs to modconfig.lua in the galaxy folder through the file manager, then restart. Players download the same mods when they connect.

How do I make myself admin?

Put your SteamID64 in the admin setting and restart. Admins can use chat commands like /kick, /ban and /save.

How do I start a fresh galaxy?

Change the Galaxy Name setting and restart. The server creates a new galaxy, and the old one stays on disk in case you want it back.

Is the server co-op or PvP?

Both work. Players can form an alliance and share ships and stations, or fight each other. PvP rules and damage settings are in server.ini.

Can I keep the server private?

Set List Publicly to false and share the address with your group. They join with Join via IP.

Can I play on the beta branch?

Yes. Set the Beta branch setting to beta and restart. Every player must also switch to the beta in Steam.

How much RAM does an Avorion server need?

4 GB for a few friends, 8 GB for a full 10 player group, and 12 GB for large or long running galaxies with mods.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Avorion?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Avorion server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
