One Game Server for Multiple Games: Can You Switch Games?
Can you use one game server for multiple games? How switching games works, running two at once, which games share plan sizes and how to keep old worlds.

You can use one game server for multiple games, but usually one game at a time. A game server is a machine or container running one game's server program, so to play something else you either switch the server to the new game or run a second server beside it. On GamezServers you can switch a server to another game with a same memory plan from Settings: your current world is backed up first and the reinstall takes about a minute.
Short answer
- One game at a time, switch whenever you like: the cheapest way to follow your group from game to game. One subscription, one address.
- Two games at once: needs two servers (or, at home, enough RAM on one machine for both, each on its own port).
- Keep old worlds: back them up before switching so you can come back later.
Why groups want this
Friend groups rarely play one game forever. It goes something like: Minecraft for two months, then everyone gets into Palworld, then a Valheim update drops, then someone suggests Project Zomboid. Buying and cancelling a new server every time is a hassle, and running several servers at once costs more than most groups want to pay.
Option 1: switch the server to another game
This is how GamezServers handles it:
- Open your server's control panel and go to Settings.
- Choose another game that has a plan with the same memory as your current one.
- We back up your current world first.
- The server reinstalls with the new game, which takes about a minute.
- Copy the address and join. Your price only changes if the new plan costs more or less, and same memory plans cost the same.
Only the server owner can switch games, even on a split server. Friends on a Server Share keep paying the same share, since the price does not change. More in the control panel docs.
Which games can switch with which
Because switching works between plans of the same memory, it helps to know which games share sizes. These are the real plan sizes per game:
| Plan size | Price | Games with this plan |
|---|---|---|
| 2 GB | 4.99 USD | Minecraft, Terraria, Factorio |
| 4 GB | 9.99 USD | Minecraft, Terraria, Factorio, Valheim, Counter-Strike 2, RuneScape: Dragonwilds |
| 6 GB | 14.99 USD | Terraria, Valheim, Counter-Strike 2, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Project Zomboid |
| 8 GB | 19.99 USD | Minecraft, Factorio, Valheim, Counter-Strike 2, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Project Zomboid, 7 Days to Die, DayZ, Enshrouded, Rust, Satisfactory |
| 12 GB | 29.99 USD | Minecraft, Project Zomboid, 7 Days to Die, DayZ, Enshrouded, Rust, Satisfactory, ARK: Survival Ascended, Palworld |
| 16 GB | 39.99 USD | 7 Days to Die, DayZ, Enshrouded, Rust, Satisfactory, ARK: Survival Ascended, Palworld |
| 24 GB | 59.99 USD | ARK: Survival Ascended, Palworld |
Tip: the 8 GB and 12 GB plans switch between the most games. If your group hops around a lot, one of those gives you the most freedom. You can also change plan size in Settings first, then switch.
Examples
- Minecraft 4 GB to Valheim 4 GB: same price, and 4 GB fits a small Viking crew.
- Rust 12 GB to Palworld 12 GB: same price. For a big Palworld group, you can move up to 16 GB afterwards.
- Valheim 6 GB to Project Zomboid 6 GB: same price, fine for a few survivors.
Check the game pages, such as Palworld, Valheim and Project Zomboid, for what each plan size suits.
Option 2: run two games at the same time
If some of your group want to keep playing the old game while others start the new one, you need two servers.
At home: one PC can run several server programs at once, as long as it has enough RAM and CPU for both and each uses different ports. For example Minecraft on 25565 TCP and Valheim on 2456 to 2457 UDP can run side by side. Each needs its own port forwarding rule. The catch is RAM: a Palworld server plus a Minecraft modpack can easily need 20 GB between them.
Hosted: each server is its own plan and subscription, and they all appear on one dashboard. You can split each one with a different group of friends if not everyone plays both.
Keeping your old worlds
Switching games should never cost you a world. On GamezServers the current world is backed up before the switch. It is still a good idea to keep your own copy too:
- Before switching, press Backup in the panel.
- Download the save folder through the file manager, or use SFTP for big worlds. How to move your world to a hosted server lists the save folder for each game.
- Keep the download somewhere safe, like cloud storage.
When the group comes back to the old game, switch back and upload the save.
Switching vs cancelling
If nobody is playing anything, cancelling is fine: billing is monthly with no contract, and the server runs until the end of the paid month. See game server hosting with no contract. But if the group is just between games, switching keeps the same subscription, the same split and the same address, so nobody has to set anything up again.
FAQ
Can one server run multiple games?
One server runs one game at a time. You can switch it to another game, or run separate servers for games you want online together.
Will I lose my world if I switch games?
Not on GamezServers. The current world is backed up before the switch. Download a copy as well if you plan to come back to it much later.
Does switching games change the price?
Only if the new plan costs more or less. Switching between plans with the same memory costs the same.
Can I switch to a game with no plan of the same size?
Change your plan size first in Settings so it matches a plan the new game offers, then switch.
Try the next game
Pick a size that fits the games your group plays on the games page, and switch whenever the group chat decides on something new.
Want a server without the setup?
Pick a game, pay, play. Your address and login appear the moment checkout finishes.
