To host a RuneScape: Dragonwilds server without keeping a PC on, pick a plan on GamezServers, pay, and your dedicated server is online in about 60 seconds. Friends find the world by its exact name on the Public tab of the Worlds screen, or join with the invite code, including players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A dedicated world holds up to 6 players, two more than an in game hosted world. This guide covers Dragonwilds server hosting from choosing a plan to crossplay, admins and moving your world.

Step 1: Pick the right plan

Jagex recommends 2 GB of RAM plus 1 GB per player, and our plans follow that rule exactly:

Plan RAM Price per month Good for
Starter 4 GB 9.99 USD Duo world, 2 players
Standard 6 GB 14.99 USD Small group, up to 4 players
Pro 8 GB 19.99 USD Full world, 6 players

Pick by how many of you will play at the same time. If your duo turns into a group of five later, move up a plan in Settings and nothing is lost. New customers get 50% off the first month. More on sizing in how much RAM a game server needs.

Step 2: Split the cost with friends (optional)

At checkout choose Split with friends and pick from 2 to 10 people. Each person pays their own share by card, plus a 1 USD payment fee per share. A Pro server split between six players comes to about 4.33 USD each per month.

  • You pay your share and the server starts straight away.
  • Each friend gets their own payment link and pays when ready. Every share that comes in keeps the server running longer.
  • Friends get 50% off their first month too if you are a new customer.
  • Friends who make an account with the email they paid with see the server in their own dashboard, with the console, actions and files.

If someone drops out, the remaining shares go up (never above the full price), and everyone is emailed first. See billing and cancellation.

Step 3: Pay and open your dashboard

Name the server, sign in or create an account on the same page, then pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe. Billing is monthly, no contract, and you can cancel from the dashboard any time (it runs to the end of the paid month).

After checkout you land on your dashboard with the server listed under Your servers, first as Setting up, then Online. No SteamCMD, no Linux libraries, no port 7777 to forward. The getting started doc covers each checkout step.

Step 4: Know your world name and address

The control panel shows the server address at the top, click to copy it. In Dragonwilds, though, players do not type an address. They search for the world name, and the search is case sensitive, so write the world name down exactly, capitals included.

Step 5: How players join

  1. Start RuneScape: Dragonwilds on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2.
  2. Open the Worlds screen and search the Public tab for your exact world name. It is case sensitive.
  3. For crossplay, enter the invite code in the world browser. Anyone already in the world can find it in the pause menu.
  4. Enter the world password if you set one, pick your character and join.

Steam invites to dedicated servers have been unreliable, so stick to the name search or the invite code. If the world does not appear, see Dragonwilds server not showing up.

Step 6: First things to set up

Dragonwilds keeps its server settings in DedicatedServer.ini, which you find in the Files tab at:

RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/DedicatedServer.ini

The settings sit under [/Script/Dominion.DedicatedServerSettings]:

Key What it does
OwnerId Your Player ID, from the bottom of the in game Settings menu. It makes you the owner
ServerName The server's name
DefaultWorldName The world the server creates and loads. Players search for this name
AdminPassword Unlocks the Server Management tab in game
WorldPassword Optional. Players must enter it to join
PlatformPolicy Which platforms can join. Crossplay lets everyone in

Owner ID, world name and passwords

On GamezServers, OwnerId, ServerName, DefaultWorldName, AdminPassword and WorldPassword are managed as server settings and written into the file every time the server starts, so editing those lines directly is undone on the next start. To set them, email support@gamezservers.com from your account email with your Player ID, the world name you want and your passwords. Keep names short, around 16 characters, and pick an admin password that is not shared with anything else.

Crossplay

Since 1.0, crossplay is set by PlatformPolicy=Crossplay. Check that line in the file. If it says PC or another single platform, change it to Crossplay, save and restart. Console players may also need to allow crossplay and online play with other platforms in their console's privacy settings. Full details in Dragonwilds dedicated server crossplay.

Admin controls

Once you are the owner and have the admin password, open Pause > Settings > Server Management in game. The owner can ban and unban anyone. Anyone who enters the admin password becomes an admin and can ban online players, but cannot unban. See how to become admin on a Dragonwilds server.

Bring your existing world

Worlds are single .sav files. On a Windows PC they are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames. Stop the server, press Backup, upload your .sav into RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames on the server without renaming it, and make sure the world name setting matches the file name. Step by step: how to transfer a Dragonwilds world to a dedicated server.

Mods

Dragonwilds has no mod support for dedicated servers, so the server runs the game as Jagex ships it.

Backups, updates, Sleep and upgrades

  • Backups: press Backup before every big boss fight and every patch. You get 3 backups.
  • Updates: players cannot see a server that is on an older build than their game. After a patch, take a backup and restart the server to update it.
  • Sleep when empty: the server stops after 90 minutes with nobody online and starts again in one click. The world is saved. Turn it off in Settings to keep it online all the time.
  • Upgrading: pick a bigger plan in Settings, prorated, with the new RAM after a restart. You can also switch the server to another game with a same memory plan, and your world is backed up first.

Yes. Everyone needs their own copy on their platform. The server itself is free, so there is nothing extra to buy.
