How to Become Admin on a RuneScape Dragonwilds Server

To become admin on a RuneScape: Dragonwilds dedicated server, enter the server's admin password in game under Pause > Settings > Server Management. The admin password is the AdminPassword value in DedicatedServer.ini. The server also has one owner, set by OwnerId, who has more power than admins: only the owner can unban players. Owner vs admin vs player

Dragonwilds has three levels of control on a dedicated server:

So the owner is the person whose Player ID is in the config, and admins are anyone who knows the admin password. Anyone who enters it becomes an admin until you change the password, so share it only with people you trust.

Step 1: Find your Player ID

Start Dragonwilds and open Settings. Your Player ID is shown at the bottom of the menu. Copy it exactly. This is not your Steam ID or your console gamertag.

The server needs this value to start properly, so set it before anything else.

Step 2: Fill in DedicatedServer.ini

Stop the server, then open the config file:

• Windows: RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/DedicatedServer.ini
• Linux: RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/DedicatedServer.ini

Set the values under [/Script/Dominion.DedicatedServerSettings]:

Save the file and start the server. Remember Jagex's known issue: edits made while the server runs are thrown away, so always stop it first.

AdminPassword and WorldPassword are different things. The world password is what everyone types to join. The admin password gives admin powers. Keep them different, because anyone who knows the admin password can make themselves an admin.

On GamezServers, OwnerId and both passwords are server settings that are written into this file on every start, so editing those lines directly is undone. Email support@gamezservers.com from your account email with your Player ID and the passwords you want, and they are set for you.

Step 3: Open Server Management in game

Join your world, open the Pause menu, go to Settings and open the Server Management tab. Enter the admin password. As the owner, your Player ID already gives you full control.

From there you can manage the players in your world, including banning troublemakers.

Banning and unbanning

• Owner: can ban and unban anyone, whether they are online or offline.
• Admins: can ban regular players while those players are online. They cannot unban anyone, including someone they banned by mistake.

If an admin bans the wrong person, the owner has to unban them. That is one more reason to keep the admin list small and to set your own Player ID as OwnerId.

Common problems

• No Server Management tab or password rejected: AdminPassword is empty, or you are typing the world password. Check the config.
• Server will not start: OwnerId is missing or wrong. Copy it again from the bottom of the Settings menu.
• My config changes vanished: the server was running while you edited. Stop, edit, start.
• I cannot unban someone: you are an admin, not the owner. Only the owner can unban.
• Too many admins: someone shared the admin password. Change it and restart.

Keep your admin password safe

• Use a long password that you do not use anywhere else.
• Change it if someone leaves the group on bad terms, then restart the server.
• Take a backup before handing out admin to new people. A backup restores the world if something goes wrong.
