How to join your Dragonwilds server

Start RuneScape: Dragonwilds on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2.

Open the Worlds screen and search the Public tab for your exact world name. It is case sensitive.

For crossplay, enter the invite code in the world browser. Anyone already in the world can find it in the pause menu.

Enter the world password if you set one, pick your character and join.

Common problems

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 90 minutes with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds server hosting, explained

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is built around a persistent world in Ashenfall, and in normal co-op that world only exists while the host is playing. A dedicated server keeps it running on its own, so the group can log in whenever suits them, build the base together and pick up quests without waiting for one person to go online. Jagex ships the server as a free tool for 64 bit Windows and Linux, and it holds up to 6 players, two more than an in game hosted world.

Setting it up yourself means installing the server with SteamCMD, filling in your Owner ID, server name, world name and admin password in DedicatedServer.ini, and forwarding UDP port 7777. Since the 1.0 release on 15 September 2026, dedicated worlds support crossplay through invite codes, which is the only way to give a PlayStation, Xbox or Switch 2 group an always online world, because consoles cannot run the server themselves.

Jagex recommends 2 GB of RAM plus 1 GB per player, which is how our plans are sized: 4 GB for a duo, 6 GB for four players and 8 GB for a full world of six. You can move a world you started in single player or co-op by uploading its save file, and take a backup before every big boss fight so a bad wipe never costs you your progress.

How many players can join?

Can console players join?

Yes. Since the 1.0 update, dedicated servers support crossplay. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 join with the invite code.

Can I move my existing world to the server?

Yes. Upload the world save file from your PC and set it as the world to load. Back up the original first.

Do my friends need to own the game?
