To transfer a RuneScape: Dragonwilds world to a dedicated server, copy the world's .sav file from %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames on your PC into the server's RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames folder, without renaming it, and set the server's world name to match. Stop the server first and back up both sides. The one rule that trips people up: renaming the .sav breaks the world, so leave the file name alone.
Short answer
- Stop the server.
- Back up your local saves and the server's
SaveGamesfolder. - Empty the server's
SaveGamesfolder. - Copy your
.savfile into it, keeping the exact file name. - Set
DefaultWorldNameto the file name without.sav. - Start the server and search for that world name.
Step 1: Find your world on your PC
On Windows, Dragonwilds saves live here:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames
Paste that into the File Explorer address bar. Each world is one .sav file, and the file name is the world name. A world called Ashenfall is Ashenfall.sav.
If you hosted the world in co-op, the save is on the host's PC, so the person who created the world does this step.
Worlds from PlayStation, Xbox or Switch 2 cannot be moved this way, since console save files are not reachable. Console groups can start a fresh world on the dedicated server and join it with crossplay.
Step 2: Stop the server and back up
Stop the server completely before you touch its saves. A running server saves over files you upload.
Then back up both sides:
- Copy the whole local
SaveGamesfolder somewhere safe. - Download the server's
RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGamesfolder. On a hosted server, press Backup in the control panel.
Step 3: Empty the server's SaveGames folder and upload
The dedicated server loads a world from its SaveGames folder, and an old world left in there can load instead of yours. Move or delete what is there (you backed it up), then upload your .sav:
- Self hosted:
RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGamesinside the server install folder. - GamezServers: open the Files tab and go to
RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames, then upload. For larger files, use SFTP: in Settings, click Show SFTP login and connect with FileZilla or WinSCP.
On Linux servers folder names are case sensitive. Upload into the folder that already exists after the server's first start, with its exact capitals, rather than making a new one.
Do not rename the file. The name is part of the world's identity. Ashenfall_final.sav is treated as a different world from Ashenfall.sav, and a renamed file can look like buildings and progress were wiped even though the data is still there.
Step 4: Set the world name
In DedicatedServer.ini, set DefaultWorldName to the file name without the extension. For Ashenfall.sav:
[/Script/Dominion.DedicatedServerSettings]
DefaultWorldName=Ashenfall
The file is at RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/DedicatedServer.ini on Windows and .../LinuxServer/DedicatedServer.ini on Linux. Edit it only while the server is stopped, or your change is lost.
On GamezServers the world name is one of the server settings written into this file on every start, so email support@gamezservers.com with the world name and we set it for you.
Step 5: Start and join
Start the server and wait for it to finish loading. Then open Worlds, go to the Public tab and search the world name exactly, capitals included. Your base and world progress should be as you left them.
If you set a world password on the server, players enter it when they join. The server's WorldPassword takes priority over any password stored in the world itself, and leaving it empty lets anyone who finds the world join.
Common problems
- A fresh world loads instead of mine: another
.savwas still inSaveGames, orDefaultWorldNamedoes not match the file name. - Progress looks wiped: the file was renamed. Put the original name back.
- World does not show in search: you are searching the server name or the capitals differ. See Dragonwilds server not showing up.
- My edits to the ini disappeared: you edited it while the server was running. Stop, edit, start.
- Version mismatch: update the server so it matches the game, then try again.
Moving the world back to your PC
Stop the server, download the .sav from RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames and put it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames on your PC. Keep the file name, and back up your local saves first in case a world with the same name is already there.
FAQ
Where are RuneScape Dragonwilds save files?
On Windows, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames. Each world is a .sav file named after the world.
Can I move a co-op world to a dedicated server?
Yes. The host copies the world's .sav from their PC and uploads it to the server. After that, nobody needs to host for the others to play.
Can I rename my world when I move it?
No. Renaming the .sav breaks the world's progress. Keep the original name and set the world name on the server to match.
Can I move a console world to a dedicated server?
Not currently, since console save files cannot be copied off the console. Start a new world on the server and join it with crossplay.
