Fastest Way to Get a Game Server (Live in About 60 Seconds)
The fastest way to get a game server: what instant setup really means, how long self hosting takes, and how to be playing with friends in minutes.

On this page
The fastest way to get a game server is a host with instant setup, where the server is built automatically the moment you pay and the address shows on your dashboard straight away. On GamezServers that takes about 60 seconds from checkout, with no ticket, no email to wait for and no command line. Setting up a server yourself usually takes anywhere from half an hour to an evening, depending on the game and your router.
Short answer
| Route | Typical time to first join | What slows it down |
|---|---|---|
| Instant setup host | About 1 to 5 minutes | Choosing a plan and paying |
| Host with manual setup | Hours to a day | Waiting for a person to build the server or answer a ticket |
| Self hosting, easy game | 30 to 60 minutes | Downloads, config, port forwarding |
| Self hosting, big game | An evening or more | Large downloads, config files, router problems, CGNAT |
What "live in 60 seconds" actually means
When a host says a server is live in about a minute, it should mean all of this happens without a human involved:
- Payment is confirmed. Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe.
- The server is created. Memory and CPU are reserved on a machine, the game files are installed, and the ports are assigned.
- You get the address and login. Right on your dashboard, not in an email hours later.
- The game starts. The first boot of some games takes a little longer while they generate the world, but you do not have to do anything.
On GamezServers, after checkout you land on your dashboard. Your new server shows Setting up for a moment, then Online. Click the address to copy it, paste it into your game, and you are in. The full walkthrough is in getting started.
Big games like ARK or Palworld can take a little longer on their very first start while they generate the map. That is the game, not the setup.
Why self hosting takes longer
Self hosting is a great skill, and every game we host ships a free server program, but it has more steps than people expect:
- Download the server files. Often through SteamCMD. Small games are a few hundred MB, big ones are tens of GB.
- Accept licences and write config. For example
eula.txtfor Minecraft,PalWorldSettings.inifor Palworld, or start parameters for Valheim. - Set up port forwarding. Log in to your router, create rules with the right protocol. See how to port forward a game server.
- Open the firewall. Allow the server through Windows Defender Firewall or ufw.
- Test from outside. And discover you are behind CGNAT, which blocks the whole thing. See how to host a game server without port forwarding.
If everything goes right, 30 minutes. If one step goes wrong, it can eat the whole evening your group had planned to play.
How to get a server as fast as possible
Here is the quickest path on GamezServers, start to finish.
- Pick your game on the games page. For example Minecraft, Valheim or Terraria.
- Take the Popular plan. It fits most friend groups, and you can change plan later in Settings without losing anything. Unsure? Choosing a plan has a quick guide.
- Sign in on the checkout page. Continue with Google is one click. There is no separate sign up step.
- Pay. Apple Pay or Google Pay is fastest on a phone. New customers get 50% off the first month.
- Copy the address from your dashboard and paste it into the game.
- Send the address to friends. Each game page has a How to join section with the exact steps.
Splitting the cost? Choose Split with friends at checkout. You pay your share and the server starts immediately, so you are not waiting on anyone. Friends pay their own links whenever they are ready. See game server hosting you can split with friends.
What you can do in the first five minutes
Speed is not just about the first boot. Once the server is up, the panel is built so the common jobs take seconds:
- Whitelist and op friends on Minecraft, or broadcast a message, with one click action buttons.
- Change settings by editing config files in the browser file manager.
- Upload an existing world through the file manager, or SFTP for big folders. See how to move your world to a hosted server.
- Back up before you change anything with the Backup button.
- Type any command in the live console.
More on each in the control panel docs.
Speed later on
A fast start is only half of it. Things that should also be quick:
- Upgrading. If the world outgrows its plan, change plan in Settings. The new RAM applies after a restart.
- Switching games. Move the server to another game with a same memory plan. The world is backed up first and the reinstall takes about a minute. See one game server for multiple games.
- Cancelling. From the dashboard, no one to contact. See billing and cancellation.
FAQ
How long does it take to set up a game server?
With an instant setup host, about a minute after paying. Self hosting usually takes 30 minutes to a few hours depending on the game, your router and whether you hit CGNAT.
Do I need to wait for an email with my server details?
Not on GamezServers. The address and panel appear on your dashboard right after checkout. An order confirmation email is sent too.
Why is my new server still starting?
Some games, like ARK and Palworld, generate a large world on first start, which can take a few minutes. Watch the live console to see progress.
Can I play with friends right away if we split the cost?
Yes. The owner pays their share and the server starts straight away. Friends pay their own share whenever they are ready.
