Valheim 1.0 and patch 1.0.16

Valheim 1.0 launched on 9 September 2026 with the Deep North biome, ending more than five years of early access, Iron Gate announced on Steam. It added crossplay with PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 and a new folder based world save format, while the dedicated server player cap stays at 10.

Five fix patches followed in September. The latest, 1.0.16 on 25 September, fixes Deep North terrain edits reverting and raids that spawned too many enemies.

What to do: back up the world before updating, update every BepInEx mod, and read Valheim 1.0 for dedicated servers.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0

RuneScape: Dragonwilds left early access on 15 September 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, Jagex announced, with crossplay across all of them. Patches 1.0.0.5 on 25 September and 1.0.0.6 on 29 September fixed dedicated server bugs and worked on launch save corruption.

What to do: keep your server updated and take regular backups until Jagex's planned 1.0.1 fix. See Dragonwilds 1.0.0.6 patch notes.

Minecraft Wilderness Bound (Java 26.3, Bedrock 26.50)

The Wilderness Bound game drop released on 15 September 2026 for both editions, adding the dappled forest biome (Minecraft.net). On Java servers, the whitelist is now on by default and some log lines that bots and wrappers read were removed. Bedrock followed with the 26.52 hotfix on 25 September.

What to do: update the server jar or Bedrock Dedicated Server, then check your whitelist before friends try to join. Details in our Java 26.3 server guide and Bedrock 26.50 guide.

Counter-Strike 2 Rush Hour

Valve's Rush Hour update arrived on 22 September 2026 with hotfixes on 23 and 25 September, as gHacks reported. It added Rush, a 3v3 mode, replaced Premier map bans with picks and rebuilt crosshairs.

What to do: restart community servers so they pull the new build, and check Metamod and CounterStrikeSharp plugins, which often break after CS2 updates. See CS2 Rush Hour for server owners and Metamod not loading after an update.

Project Zomboid Build 42.21

Build 42.21 reached the stable branch on 28 September 2026, The Indie Stone said on Steam. It fixes zombies vanishing and duplicating in multiplayer and re-enables the loadstring Lua methods that 42.20.4 had removed, which some mods need.

What to do: update the server and make sure every Workshop mod is on its latest version, or players get the "workshop item version is different" error. See the 42.21 update guide.

Palworld v1.0.4 and v1.0.5

Pocketpair released v1.0.4 on 7 September and v1.0.5 on 15 September 2026. v1.0.4 added server settings and fixed dedicated server crashes, while v1.0.5 is a small bug fix.

What to do: update and restart, then compare settings with our Palworld patch notes roundup.

ARK: Survival Ascended September patch

ARK's 30 September patch added the Cerberax, the Gargantar and the Therizinosaurus TLC, plus a new AllowVariantDinoPacks server option (Steam). The Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade that was meant to ship with it moved to 28 October, per Community Crunch 525.

What to do: update now, and plan a mod check for 28 October. See ARK patch notes 2026.

Experimental and beta branches

Three games shipped big changes to opt in branches only. Stable servers should not switch yet:

  • 7 Days to Die V3.3 experimental (b18) arrived on 24 September with a Bigger Backpack system, on the latest_experimental branch (Steam). Stable servers stay on V3.2. More in V3.3 experimental.
  • Factorio 2.1 reached 2.1.20 on the experimental branch by 22 September, while stable stays on 2.0.77 (Wube forum). See Factorio 2.1.
  • Schedule I v0.4.7 entered open beta on 19 September (Steam). The S1DedicatedServers mod added beta support on 2 October. See Schedule I v0.4.7.

Other September server news

  • Garry's Mod shipped 64-bit Windows dedicated server binaries on 16 September 2026, plus a new sv_log_storetime convar for log cleanup (Facepunch).
  • Hytale released its last Update 6 hotfixes up to 0.6.6 on 14 September (Hytale) and on 24 September dated Chapter 1 for 12 October. See Hytale Chapter 1.
  • Stormforge dated its Steam early access for 10 November 2026 on 17 September (Steam).
  • Satisfactory announced its first expansion, Core Values, on 29 September with no release date (Coffee Stain).
  • Rust shipped the Livestock update with its forced wipe on 1 October (Facepunch). See Rust Livestock.

What this means for your server

September's lesson is that update days come in clusters. If you run more than one game, or one game with mods, three habits save the most time:

  1. Back up before every update. Valheim's new save format and Dragonwilds' save issues both showed why.
  2. Update the server the same day as players. Most "cannot connect" reports after a patch are a version mismatch.
  3. Leave experimental branches alone on shared servers until they reach stable and your mods catch up.

For what is coming next, see upcoming dedicated server games and updates. On GamezServers, the Backup button saves a copy in one click, and games that install their newest release get an Update game button that backs up first and then reinstalls.

FAQ

What were the biggest game server updates in September 2026?

Valheim 1.0 on 9 September, RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 and Minecraft Wilderness Bound on 15 September, and CS2's Rush Hour on 22 September. Each needed servers to update before players could join.

Did Valheim 1.0 change the dedicated server player limit?

No. A Valheim dedicated server still holds up to 10 players. The big server change is a new folder based world save format, so back up before updating.

Do I need to update my Minecraft server for Wilderness Bound?

Yes, if your players are on 26.3 or Bedrock 26.50. Java servers on 26.3 also turn the whitelist on by default, so add your players or turn it off.

Should I move my server to 7 Days to Die V3.3 or Factorio 2.1?

Not on a shared server yet. Both are experimental, so keep your main server on stable and test the new version on a copy of the world.

Why can nobody join my server after an update?

Usually the server is on the old version while players have updated. Restart or update the server, then check that your mods support the new build.
