Stormforge multiplayer is online co-op for 1 to 8 players, plus LAN co-op, and Roboto Games has confirmed self-hosted servers that players reach over LAN or through a relay. The developers also say the game works completely offline, including multiplayer, so your world does not depend on their servers staying up. Early access opens on Steam on 10 November 2026, and some server details are still to come. Here is what is confirmed and what it means for your crew.

How many players can play Stormforge together?
Up to 8. The Steam page lists 1 to 8 players, and the official site describes it as "8 player co-op gameplay". The game is designed to be fun solo and better with friends, and character classes have complementary powers, so a full crew of warriors, mages and rangers covers each other.
There is no sign of larger player counts or public servers with dozens of players. Stormforge is built for a friend group or a small community.
Online co-op, LAN and relay: what is the difference?
Stormforge lists three ways to play together:
- Online co-op. Friends play together over the internet.
- LAN co-op. Players on the same local network, for example the same house or a LAN party, connect directly.
- Self-hosted servers. The developer FAQ on Steam says Stormforge will support self-hosted servers that players connect to over LAN or through a relay server.
A relay passes traffic between players and the host through a middle server. The upside is that the host usually does not need to port forward, since both sides connect outward to the relay. What has not been published yet is whether a self-hosted server can also accept direct connections by IP address, and whether the relay is required or optional.
Does Stormforge work offline?
Yes, according to Roboto Games. The developer FAQ says the game can be played completely offline, and that if every online service shut down, the game would still be playable in single player and multiplayer. That is a strong commitment for a co-op survival game. For groups, it means a self-hosted world should never be locked out because a matchmaking service is down.
Is there crossplay?
Stormforge is launching on Windows PC through Steam only. No Xbox, PlayStation or Switch versions have been announced, so there is no console crossplay to worry about. The Steam page does not list Steam Deck status or a Linux version.
Who should host your world?
Until the server tools are out, the practical choice is between one friend hosting and waiting for a dedicated server:
- A friend hosts from their PC. Fine if one person is almost always online. The world is only available when they are, and their PC has to run the game and host everyone at the same time. Stormforge already asks for 16 GB of RAM just to play, see Stormforge system requirements.
- A self-hosted server. Keeps the world available for anyone in the crew, as long as the machine running it stays on.
- A hosted server. Same as self-hosted, but on hardware in a data center, so nobody leaves a PC running.
If your crew plays at different times, a server is what keeps the world available to everyone. We explain the trade offs in dedicated server vs peer to peer.
Tips for smooth co-op
- Everyone on the same version. Early access patches often, and multiplayer games usually need matching versions. Let Steam update before you play.
- Back up your world before big patches. Early access saves can occasionally break.
- Mods: Steam Workshop is supported, but check how mods behave in multiplayer once the game launches. See Stormforge mods and Steam Workshop.
Hosting your crew's world with GamezServers
We are preparing Stormforge servers and will open them once the official server tools are out and we have tested them. Your world stays online when the usual host logs off, you can split the bill with your crew, and nobody's home IP is shared. They are not open yet, so join the waitlist on our Stormforge server hosting page. The Stormforge quick start guide shows the planned plans.
