Stormforge Dedicated Servers: Everything We Know Before Early Access

What is confirmed about Stormforge self-hosted servers before the 10 November 2026 early access launch, what is not, and what hosts should expect.

On this page

Stormforge enters Steam early access on 10 November 2026, and one of the first questions from co-op groups is whether they can run their own server. The short answer is yes, the developers have said self-hosted servers are part of the plan, but most of the technical details a host needs have not been published yet. This page separates what Roboto Games has actually said from what is still unknown, and we will update it as soon as the server tools are out.

Tip: Want your crew's world online without anyone leaving a PC running? We are preparing Stormforge servers. Join the waitlist on our Stormforge server hosting page to be first when they open, and see the Stormforge quick start guide for the planned plans.

What Stormforge is

Stormforge is an open world survival crafting game from Roboto Games. You explore a procedurally generated fantasy world where magical storms roll across the map, carrying the best resources and the most danger. The game mixes melee, ranged and magic combat with crafting, base building, character classes with their own powers and boss fights. The developers cite Dungeons and Dragons and the Stormlight Archive as inspirations, with an art style influenced by Moebius and Miyazaki.

At the start of early access the game has three major biomes, each with its own boss, plus more than 100 points of interest. A free demo with two biomes, one boss and three classes has been available on Steam ahead of launch.

Early access: dates and plans

  • Launch date: 10 November 2026, on Steam, for Windows PC.
  • Length: Roboto Games expects early access to last about a year, depending on community feedback.
  • Planned before 1.0: a mountain biome with its own boss, new storm types, more character classes and a bigger end game.
  • Price: a single up front price, with an increase expected at full release.

What is confirmed about multiplayer

These points come from the Steam store page and the developer's own FAQ:

  • Up to 8 players. Stormforge supports solo play and online co-op for up to 8 players.
  • LAN co-op is listed as a supported mode.
  • Self-hosted servers. The developer FAQ says the game will support self-hosted servers that players connect to over LAN or through a relay server.
  • Offline play. The same FAQ says the game can be played completely offline, and that both single player and multiplayer should keep working even if every online service shut down. For server owners this is good news: your world should never depend on a matchmaking service staying up.
  • Workshop and editor. Steam Workshop support and a built in level editor are on the store page, and the developers describe a modding system that can add community content to a session in progress. More in Stormforge mods and Steam Workshop.

What is not confirmed yet

As of 30 September 2026, none of the following has been officially published. Treat any specific numbers you see elsewhere as guesses until Roboto Games releases them.

  • A separate dedicated server download. "Self-hosted" could mean a standalone server program you run on a spare machine, or a player hosting from inside the game. We have not seen a server app ID on Steam or a separate download yet.
  • Linux support. The game itself is Windows only. Whether a server build runs on Linux, which most hosting uses, is not known.
  • Ports and protocols. No default ports have been published, so there is nothing to forward yet.
  • Config files and admin tools. We do not know what settings a server will expose, such as passwords, difficulty, storm frequency or admin commands.
  • Server hardware needs. The game's own minimum spec asks for 16 GB of RAM on a player's PC, but that covers graphics and the client too. A server's memory needs have not been stated. See Stormforge system requirements for the full PC specs.
  • Mods on servers. Workshop support is confirmed for the game, but how mods load on a self-hosted world is not.
  • Whether the relay is required. We know LAN and relay connections are planned. We do not know yet whether a server can take direct connections by IP address, which is how most hosted servers work. This is the part that decides how hard self hosting will be at home: if direct connections need a forwarded port, home hosts will face the usual router and CGNAT problems. A hosted server avoids those, which is one reason we are waiting to test the real tools before opening Stormforge servers.

What to expect as a host

Based on what is confirmed, here is how we expect things to play out. These are expectations, not promises.

Small worlds, not big public servers. With a cap of 8 players, Stormforge servers are built for a friend group or a small community, not 100 player public worlds. That keeps hardware needs modest compared with games like DayZ.

Memory estimates. Until real numbers exist, our working estimate is 6 GB for a crew of up to 4, 8 GB for a full crew of 8, and 12 GB for 8 players in a large, well explored world or with mods. Procedurally generated worlds tend to use more memory the more of the map players uncover. We will adjust these once we can test the actual server.

Frequent updates. Early access games patch often, and servers usually have to match the players' game version exactly. Expect to update the server with most patches, and back up your world before each one, since early access saves can occasionally break.

Changes along the way. Features listed for early access can shift. If the server tools arrive after launch day, or change shape during early access, we will say so here.

How to prepare now

  • Wishlist the game on Steam and try the free demo to see which classes and biomes your group likes.
  • Agree on a group size. With a hard cap of 8, decide who is in the regular crew before you set anything up.
  • Decide who hosts. If one friend's PC is always on, LAN or relay play may be enough at first. If you want the world online when that friend is not, a hosted server is the answer once tools are available.
  • Keep an eye on official channels. The Steam page, the developer's Steam FAQ and the official Discord are where server details will appear first.

The easy way

A Stormforge server that stays up while your crew sleeps, works, or plays at different times is what most groups will want, and it should not depend on one friend's PC. We are preparing Stormforge servers and will open them once the official server tools are released and we have tested them: pick a plan, split the bill with up to 9 friends, and your server is live in about a minute with a control panel, one click backups and no port forwarding. We are not giving a date we cannot promise.
