The easiest way to host a game server with no technical knowledge is a game server host with a simple web panel: you pick a game, pay, and copy an address into your game. There is no command line, no router to configure and no files to download. If you do not need the world online when you are away, the game's own co-op hosting is even simpler, but it stops the moment you log off.

Short answer

  • Easiest of all, but limited: co-op hosting from the game's menu. No setup, but friends can only play while you do.
  • Easiest always online option: a hosted server with instant setup. On GamezServers it is live in about 60 seconds, and everything is done with buttons.
  • Hardest: running the server program yourself at home, which means config files, port forwarding, firewalls and updates.

What makes hosting "technical"

When people say hosting a server is hard, they usually mean one of these jobs:

Job Self hosting Hosted server
Downloading server files SteamCMD or a Java jar, often by command line Done for you
Editing config files Text files with exact syntax Browser editor, and buttons for common jobs
Port forwarding Router settings, TCP vs UDP, local IPs Ports already open
Firewall rules Windows Defender or ufw Not needed
Keeping it online A PC left on around the clock Runs in a data center
Backups Copy folders yourself Backup button

Each of these is learnable, and plenty of people enjoy it. But if you just want to play with friends, every one of them is a place where the evening can go wrong. The port forwarding guide alone is a long read.

Option 1: co-op hosting from the game menu

Most survival games have a host button:

  • Minecraft Java: open a single player world, press Esc, click Open to LAN. This only works for players on your own network unless you add a mod or tunnel.
  • Valheim: start a world with Start server ticked. With crossplay on, friends can join with a code.
  • Palworld: start a co-op world and share the invite code, up to 4 players.
  • Enshrouded and Dragonwilds: host a world and invite friends through Steam.

It is free and easy. The catch is that the world only exists while you play, your PC does double duty, and friends cannot play without you. Dedicated server vs peer to peer explains why.

Option 2: a hosted server with a simple panel

This is the easiest way to get a server that stays online. Here is exactly what it looks like on GamezServers, with no technical steps at all.

Step 1: pick a game

Open the games page and pick what your group plays, such as Minecraft, Valheim, Palworld or Terraria.

Step 2: pick a plan

Plans are sized by memory (RAM). You do not need to understand RAM: the plan marked Popular is sized for a typical friend group, and each plan shows a suggested number of players. If you pick wrong, you can change plan any time in Settings.

Step 3: sign in and pay

The account step is on the checkout page. Continue with Google is one click. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. New customers get 50% off the first month.

Step 4: copy the address

About 60 seconds later your dashboard shows the server as Online, with its address at the top. Click it to copy.

Step 5: join and invite friends

Paste the address into your game's multiplayer screen. Every game page has a How to join section with the exact clicks for that game. Send the same address to your friends.

That is the whole process. No downloads, no router, no terminal.

Running the server without technical skills

Once it is running, the jobs you actually need are buttons:

  • Start, Stop, Restart and Backup on the right of the console.
  • Game buttons such as Save world, Make it day, Broadcast, Whitelist player or Make operator on Minecraft. Buttons that need a detail, like a player name, ask for it.
  • Sleep when empty stops the server after 90 minutes with nobody online, and one press of Start brings it back. You can turn it off.
  • Change plan in Settings if the server feels slow.
  • Switch game in Settings when your group moves on, with the old world backed up first. See one game server for multiple games.

And if you do get curious, nothing is locked away: the live console accepts any command, the file manager edits any config, and SFTP handles big uploads. See game server hosting with full control.

Making paying easy too

The least technical part of hosting can still be the most annoying: collecting money from friends. At checkout choose Split with friends and each friend gets their own payment link. They pay their share with their own card, no account needed, and you never have to chase anyone. A 14.99 USD Valheim server split 5 ways is about 4.00 USD each. More in game server hosting you can split with friends.

Common beginner questions

Do I need a powerful PC? No. A hosted server runs on its own hardware. Your PC only runs the game.

Do my friends need to do anything special? No. They paste the address into the game like any other server. They need their own copy of the game.

What if something breaks? Restart from the panel first. Most problems are fixed by a restart, and backups let you roll back a bad change. You can also email support@gamezservers.com.

FAQ

What is the easiest game server to host?

Minecraft and Terraria are the simplest to run and the cheapest, starting at 2 GB. On a hosted server every game is equally easy, because setup is automatic.

Can I host a game server with no coding or command line?

Yes. With a hosted server and a web panel you never need the command line. Everything common is a button, and config files open in a browser editor.

Do I need to port forward if I use a host?

No. A hosted server has its own public address and open ports. See how to host a game server without port forwarding for the other options.

How long does it take?

About a minute after paying. See the fastest way to get a game server.

The easy way

Pick your game on the games page, take the Popular plan and paste the address into your game. If you want a tour of the panel first, the control panel docs show every button.

Want a server without the setup?

Pick a game, pay, play. Your address and login appear the moment checkout finishes.
