Hidden from the community list

Switch off Show in the community list and the server never appears to strangers browsing for a game. Your crew adds it by address under Join Game, which is instant anyway.

The join password is set from the panel too. It needs 5 to 20 characters and cannot be part of the server name. Leave it empty and we make one for you.

A real whitelist when you want one

For a server only named players can enter, open Files and add each Viking's player ID to permittedlist.txt, then restart. Press F2 in game to see player IDs.

bannedlist.txt keeps someone out for good, and adminlist.txt gives a trusted friend admin commands in the in game console.

Better than hosting from your game

Hosting from inside Valheim means the world is only online while you play, and your PC carries everyone. A private dedicated server runs on its own, so the crew logs in whenever they like and nobody waits.

Bring the world you already have: upload it in Files, set World name to match, and it converts to the 1.0 format on first load.

World modifiers come with it. Pick a preset like Casual, Hard or Hardcore in the panel, or fine tune combat, resources, raids and portals for the whole crew.

Priced for a small crew

Starter has 4 GB for $9.99 a month and comfortably handles a small vanilla crew. Standard has 6 GB for $14.99 for a full crew of 10. New subscribers pay half for the first month.

How to join your Valheim server

Launch Valheim, click Start Game and pick your character.

Open the Join Game tab and click Add server.

Paste 203.0.113.24:2456 and click Add server again.

Select the server, click Connect and enter the password from the server settings.

On Xbox, PlayStation or Switch 2, type the server's join code in the Join Game tab instead. The owner finds it in the server console.

Common problems

Wrong password or cannot connect

The password is case sensitive. Right after a start or update the server needs a minute or two to load the world before it accepts players.

Joining from Xbox, PlayStation or Switch 2

Console players join with the join code, not the address. The owner finds it in the server console on a line that says registered with join code.

Incompatible version

The server updates Valheim on every restart. After a Valheim patch the owner restarts the server and players update their game.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

How do I make my Valheim server private?

Turn off Show in the community list and set a join password in the panel. For a whitelist, add player IDs to permittedlist.txt in Files and restart.

How much is a private Valheim server?

How do friends join a hidden server?

Can I bring my existing world?

Yes. Stop the server, upload your world folder in Files, set World name to the same name and start.

Can I bring my existing world?

Yes. Stop the server, open Files and upload your world folder, or the .db and .fwl files from a world saved before 1.0, into .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local. Set World name to the same name and start. Older worlds convert to the new format the first time they load.

Does crossplay work?

Yes. Crossplay is on by default on the vanilla server type, so players on Xbox, PC Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 can join Steam players on the same server with its join code. Mods are PC only, so crossplay servers are best kept vanilla.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
