How to join your Swords 'n Magic and Stuff server
- 1
Launch Swords 'n Magic and Stuff and pick Multiplayer from the main menu.
- 2
Find your server's name in the server list. A lock icon means it has a password.
- 3
Click the server and enter the password from your panel when asked.
- 4
Bring any character you like. Characters are saved on your own PC and travel with you.
Common problems
The server name has rules: 2 to 5 different words, all taken from the game's allowed word list. The list is in SNM2020/Saved/Logs/Allowed-Words.txt in the file manager. A name with other words will not work.
Your Steam ID must be the 17 digit SteamID64, not your profile name. Paste your profile link into steamid.io to get it.
World resets come every day at 00:00 by default. Raise Reset time in the panel if your group wants the world to last longer between resets.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Swords 'n Magic and Stuff server hosting, explained
Swords 'n Magic and Stuff is a cozy open world RPG from Kindred Games. You level six classes just by using their weapons, mix them however you like, and buy land to build and decorate a home. Characters are saved on each player's own PC, so the same hero can hop between worlds. On a shared server the fun is in grouping up for dungeons and bosses, swapping loot and turning a row of plots into a little town.
The game's lobbies only exist while the host is playing. A dedicated server, supported since October 2022, keeps a world running for a group that plays at different times, so nobody has to stay online for everyone else. Friend groups use one to keep their own private world, and some guilds open theirs to the public list to find more people for group content.
In the panel you set the server name, password, max players and your own Steam ID as the owner. Two reset settings decide how many days pass between world resets and what time of day they happen, which is midnight every day out of the box. Auto update keeps the server on the newest build, so it matches players after a patch without anyone logging in to fix it.
The server only ships as a Windows build, which costs a bit more memory than a native one. 4 GB is fine for a few friends. A full 16 player server sits better on 6 GB, and 8 GB gives a busy public server room to breathe. You can move between plans in the panel at any time. Sleep when empty is there too if your group only plays evenings.

Common questions
Does Swords 'n Magic and Stuff have dedicated servers?
Yes. Kindred Games added dedicated server support in October 2022, next to the normal in game lobbies. A dedicated server keeps the world up when nobody is hosting.
How many players can join?
The server starts with 16 slots, set with Max players in the panel. Lower it if you want a smaller, quieter world.
Why won't my server name save?
Names must be 2 to 5 unique words from the game's allowed word list, found in SNM2020/Saved/Logs/Allowed-Words.txt. Pick words from that file and restart.
How do I become admin?
Put your 17 digit SteamID64 in the owner Steam ID setting and restart. That account gets admin rights on the server.
What does the reset setting do?
The server resets its world on the schedule you choose, every day at 00:00 by default. Characters are stored on players' PCs, so levels and gear are not lost.
Do my characters carry over?
Yes. Characters live on each player's machine, so the same character can join your server, a friend's lobby or an official server.
Can I keep the server private?
Set a server password in the panel. The server shows a lock icon in the list and asks for the password before anyone joins.
Does the server update itself?
With Auto update on, the server checks for a new build every time it starts. Restart it after a game patch so players on the new version can join.
Is GamezServers affiliated with Swords 'n Magic and Stuff?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated Swords 'n Magic and Stuff server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
