How to join your DDRaceNetwork server

  1. 1

Install DDNet for free from Steam or ddnet.org.

  2. 2

    Launch DDNet and open Play.

  3. 3

Type 203.0.113.24 into the server address box at the bottom of the browser and press Connect.

  4. 4

Enter the password from your panel if the server has one.

Common problems

Server not in the browser? Register server is off by default. Set it to ipv4 in the panel and restart, or join by address instead.

Admin commands: set sv_rcon_password in the server config, then press F2 in game and log in to use the remote console.

Custom map won't load? Map names are case sensitive. Upload the .map file to the maps folder and use the exact name without the extension.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

DDRaceNetwork server hosting, explained

DDraceNetwork, usually called DDNet, is a free cooperative platformer that grew out of a Teeworlds mod. You play small round tees with a grappling hook and a hammer, and maps are built around teamwork: one player hooks another over a gap, someone gets frozen, someone else drags them out. Maps go from easy runs to ones that take a practiced team hours, and finishing times go on the ranks.

A server of your own means the map you want, when you want it, without strangers wandering into your team's run. The panel sets the game version, server name, password and starting map, plus a Register server toggle that puts you on the public list or keeps you off it. Upload maps over SFTP if your group builds or plays custom ones, and change maps on the fly from the remote console.

Mappers use private servers a lot. Testing a new map with friends before it goes up for release is much easier on a server that stays up, where you can swap versions of the map as you fix parts. Set an rcon password in the server config and press F2 in game to run commands like change_map without touching the panel.

DDNet's server is extremely light. It runs a 2D map with simple physics, so memory stays tiny even when it is busy. 1 GB is enough for a team running maps, 2 GB for a public server with a custom map folder, and you would only need 4 GB for a big server with dozens of players on at once.

Common questions

How many players can a DDNet server hold?

The default limit is 64 clients, set with sv_max_clients in the server config. Since version 20.0 the server supports up to 128.

How do I keep my DDNet server off the public list?

Leave Register server off in the panel and set a password. Friends then join by typing the address into the browser or adding it to favorites.

Can I play custom maps?

Yes. Upload the .map files to the maps folder, then set the map in the panel or switch with change_map in the remote console.

How do I get admin on my server?

Set sv_rcon_password in the server config and restart. In game, press F2 to open the remote console and log in with that password.

Which version should the server run?

Latest is right for most groups. Use nightly only if everyone runs the nightly client, or set a version number to match an older client.

Is DDNet free?

Yes. DDNet is free and open source, on Steam and from ddnet.org, so anyone in your group can join at no cost.

Do players need to download my custom maps?

No. Players download the map from the server automatically when they join.

Is GamezServers affiliated with DDRaceNetwork?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated DDRaceNetwork server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
