How to join your OpenRA - Dune2000 server

  1. 1

Download and install OpenRA from openra.net, launch it and choose the Dune 2000 mod.

  2. 2

Follow the first launch prompts to install the Dune 2000 content the mod needs.

  3. 3

    Click Multiplayer, then Direct Connect.

  4. 4

Enter 203.0.113.24 and click Join, then type the password if the lobby asks for one.

Common problems

OpenRA requires the exact same release on server and clients. The server runs the stable release. If your group runs a playtest, email support@gamezservers.com with the tag.

In an empty dedicated lobby the first player to join becomes admin and picks the map. Decide who that is before a tournament round.

Private servers do not appear in the browser. Leave Public Server off and share 203.0.113.24 for Direct Connect.

Custom maps from the OpenRA Resource Center download to players automatically when the admin selects them in the lobby.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

OpenRA - Dune2000 server hosting, explained

OpenRA's Dune 2000 mod rebuilds Westwood's 1998 RTS on a modern open source engine. Atreides, Harkonnen and Ordos compete for spice on Arrakis, concrete slabs matter, and sandworms swallow careless harvesters whole. OpenRA adds what the original lacked: sane unit control, attack move, replays, observer slots and online lobbies. Most games are 1v1 or small team skirmishes, with a dedicated community that still runs tournaments for it.

OpenRA can host from a client, but a dedicated server means the lobby stays up, nobody fights with port forwarding, and the host leaving does not end the evening. It suits a small group that plays every week, a coach running practice matches, or a tournament that needs one reliable lobby. Spectators can join to watch and learn without taking a slot.

In the panel you name the server, choose whether it shows in the public list, set a password, enable single player, and toggle GeoIP flags and anonymized IPs. The server runs the current stable OpenRA release, which is what players get from openra.net, and support can set a playtest build if your group needs one. The February 2026 playtest added new Dune 2000 effects and a random map generator, so groups trying new builds can match the server to them. Inside the lobby, the first player in is admin and picks the map, adds bots and kicks players.

The server just relays orders between players, so it needs very little memory. A Dune 2000 lobby runs on 1 GB, including large maps and full observer slots, and 2 GB covers busy public lobbies with ease. A bigger plan does not change how OpenRA plays. On quiet weeks, Sleep when empty stops the server after 4 days without players and wakes it with one click.

Common questions

How many players can join an OpenRA Dune 2000 game?

It depends on the map, since each map defines its player slots. Spectators can join on top of that.

Do players need the original Dune 2000?

OpenRA itself is free. On first launch the Dune 2000 mod walks each player through installing the game content it needs, and everyone must run the same OpenRA release as the server.

Why can my friend not connect?

Usually a version mismatch. The server runs the current stable release, so check that players have that release installed, not a playtest.

Who is admin on a dedicated server?

The first player to join an empty lobby. They pick the map and options and can kick players, and admin passes on if they leave.

Can we play against bots?

Yes. The lobby admin can add AI players, and Enable Singleplayer lets one person start a game alone against bots.

How do I make my server private?

Turn off Public Server so it stays out of the browser, and set a password. Players then connect by address with Direct Connect.

Can I use custom maps?

Yes. Maps from the OpenRA Resource Center are downloaded automatically by players' clients when the admin selects them.

Is OpenRA affiliated with EA?

No. OpenRA is an independent open source project and is not made or endorsed by Electronic Arts.

Is GamezServers affiliated with OpenRA - Dune2000?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated OpenRA - Dune2000 server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
