What comes set up on a ET Legacy server
Omni-bot fills the teams
Turn on Omni-bot in the panel and bots fill empty slots, so a late night server still has a match going.
Stock maps and custom pk3s
Start on Oasis, run Goldrush, Radar and Fuel Dump, or upload custom map pk3 files over SFTP.
Lua scripting built in
The default legacy mod runs Lua scripts, loaded with lua_modules, for admin tools, stats and custom rules.
Clan scrims and pubs
Set referee and RCON passwords for scrims, or run a public server with XP save and your own rotation.

Common problems
Lua script not running? List it in lua_modules in etl_server.cfg and restart, then check the console for errors.
Players stuck downloading maps? Set sv_wwwBaseURL to a web host with your pk3 files so downloads are fast instead of crawling through the game server.
Settings not changing? Most settings live in etl_server.cfg, which loads at start. Edit it in the file manager and restart.
Set rconpassword in etl_server.cfg, then use /rcon followed by the password and a command from your game console.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your ET Legacy server
ET: Legacy runs its own legacy mod, with Lua scripting for admin tools and stats. The big custom content is the classic community maps, uploaded as pk3 files over SFTP.
ET Legacy server hosting, explained
ET: Legacy is the open source continuation of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the free class based team shooter from 2003. Axis and Allies fight over objective maps like Oasis, Goldrush and Radar, where engineers build and plant, medics revive, field ops call airstrikes and covert ops sneak around in enemy uniforms. The project fixes old bugs, runs on modern systems and still plays with the original 2.60b game, and it shipped version 2.86 in September 2026.
Your own server means your map rotation, your settings and a home for a clan or a small community. The panel sets the default map, the 32 or 64 bit server build and an Enable Omnibot switch, which fills empty slots with bots. Everything else, from the server name and password to XP save and team balance, lives in etl_server.cfg in the file manager.
Most of the community plays ET: Legacy's own legacy mod, which brings Lua scripting for admin commands, stats and custom rules, plus XP save and team balance settings. Custom maps are where a server gets its character: classic community maps like Supply Depot, Braundorf, Adlernest and ET Ice upload as pk3 files, and a fast download URL keeps joining quick. The panel's 32 bit build is there for older add-ons that only ship 32 bit files.
Enemy Territory dates from 2003 and its server needs very little, even with a full match and bots running on every slot. 1 GB covers a clan scrim server, 2 GB a busy public server with Omni-bot and a long custom map list, and 4 GB is only for a heavily scripted setup with a big map pool. CPU and a steady connection matter far more than memory here.

Common questions
How many players can an ET: Legacy server hold?
You set it with sv_maxclients in etl_server.cfg. Classic public servers run 20 to 32 slots, though the maps play well with fewer.
Can I add bots?
Yes. Turn on Enable Omnibot in the panel and the server fills teams with Omni-bot. You can then add or kick bots from the console.
Do players need the original game?
Not separately. Enemy Territory was released free, and the ET: Legacy installer can download the original game data for you.
Should I run the 32 or 64 bit server?
64 bit suits almost everyone and is the default. Choose 32 bit only if an older add-on you need ships nothing but 32 bit files.
Can I run Lua scripts?
Yes. The legacy mod has a Lua API. Upload your scripts, list them in lua_modules in etl_server.cfg and restart.
How do I change maps?
Set the default map in the panel, or change it live with the map command over RCON. Upload custom maps as pk3 files through SFTP.
How do I make my server private?
Set g_password in etl_server.cfg and restart. Players then type /password and the password in the console before connecting.
Is ET: Legacy still updated?
Yes. Version 2.86 came out in September 2026 with a rebuilt XP save, a reworked ranking system and many fixes.
Is GamezServers affiliated with ET Legacy?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated ET Legacy server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
