Satisfactory dedicated server settings explained: Server Manager, autosave, Auto Pause, Network Quality, Game.ini, Engine.ini, ports and launch options.

Most Satisfactory dedicated server settings are changed in the game, not in a file: open Server Manager, select the server, sign in with the admin password and use the server settings tab. That is where you set the server name, passwords, Auto Pause, the autosave interval and Network Quality. A few advanced options, like the player limit and connection timeouts, live in Game.ini and Engine.ini. Here is every setting people actually change, with what we would set.
Server Manager settings
Open Satisfactory, click Server Manager on the main menu, select your server and sign in as admin.
Dedicated server
| Setting | What it does | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| Server Name | The name shown in Server Manager | Anything your group will recognise |
| Admin Password | Full control of the server, its saves and settings | Long and private. One or two people. |
| Player Password Protection | A join password for everyone else | On, unless you trust everyone who has the address |
| Auto-Load Session Name | The session the server loads on start | Set it to your main save so restarts load the right world |
| Auto Pause | Pauses the game when nobody is connected | On for most groups. Off if you want production to run offline. |
| Auto-Save on Player Disconnect | Saves whenever a player leaves | On |
Gameplay
| Setting | What it does | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| Server Restart Interval | Despite the name, the time of day the server restarts automatically | An hour when nobody plays, like 06:00 |
| Autosave Interval | Minutes between autosaves. Default 5. | 5 for small saves, 10 to 15 for big factories that freeze on save |
| Send Gameplay Data | Sends anonymous gameplay data to Coffee Stain | Your choice |
| Network Quality | Higher can improve load times and smoothness for players, at the cost of server framerate | Default, raise it only if the server has CPU to spare |
Our take on Auto Pause: leave it on unless the group really wants the factory working while everyone is asleep. With it off, the server simulates the whole factory around the clock, which uses more CPU and memory for little gain on most saves.
Server Manager tabs you will use
- Status shows the loaded session, the player count and the game version.
- Manage Saves creates a new game, uploads a save from your PC, downloads a save, or loads a different one. See how to upload a Satisfactory save to a dedicated server.
- Console runs server commands. The official wiki notes it is the only way to run commands on the server.
Useful console commands from the official wiki:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
server.SaveGame MySave |
Saves the game now under the name MySave |
server.GenerateAPIToken |
Creates a token for the server's HTTPS API, for scripts and tools |
quit |
Shuts the server down |
Run server.SaveGame before anything risky, like a big rebuild or a mod update.
Ports
| Port | Protocol | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| 7777 | UDP and TCP | Game traffic and the HTTPS API that Server Manager talks to |
| 8888 | TCP | Reliable messaging, used while players load in and play |
Both must be open. A server that shows as online but leaves players stuck on the loading screen almost always has the second port closed. Change them with launch options (below), and keep the outside and inside port numbers the same. More in Satisfactory server can't connect.
Config files: Game.ini and Engine.ini
The config files are in the server's install folder:
- Linux:
FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ - Windows:
FactoryGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\
Always stop the server before editing. Satisfactory writes these files when it shuts down, so changes made while it runs get overwritten.
Player limit (Game.ini)
[/Script/Engine.GameSession]
MaxPlayers=8
The default is 4, and Coffee Stain tunes the server for 4. More players need more RAM. See how many players can play Satisfactory.
Autosaves kept (Engine.ini)
[/Script/FactoryGame.FGSaveSession]
mNumRotatingAutosaves=3
How many autosaves the server keeps before deleting the oldest. 3 is the default. Raise it to 5 or more if you want to be able to roll back further after a bad mistake. It costs only disk space.
Connection timeouts (Engine.ini)
[/Script/OnlineSubsystemUtils.IpNetDriver]
InitialConnectTimeout=30.0
ConnectionTimeout=20.0
Seconds before a connecting or connected player is dropped. Raise them if players with slower connections time out while loading a big save.
Network tick rate (Engine.ini, advanced)
The official wiki also documents NetServerMaxTickRate, LanServerMaxTickRate and NetClientTicksPerSecond. Changing them trades CPU and bandwidth for update frequency. Leave them alone unless you are chasing a specific network problem and can test the result.
Launch options
For self hosters starting the server from the command line:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
-Port=7777 |
Changes the main game port |
-ReliablePort=8888 |
Changes the reliable messaging port |
-ExternalReliablePort=8888 |
Tells clients a different reliable port, for setups that remap it |
-multihome=<IP> |
Binds the server to one network interface |
-ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8 |
Sets an ini value from the command line |
-unattended |
Stops the server waiting on dialog boxes |
-log |
Shows the log in a console window |
Self hosting from scratch, including SteamCMD app 1690800, is covered in how to make a Satisfactory server.
Settings on a GamezServers Satisfactory server
On a GamezServers Satisfactory server, the server is claimed with your admin password on first start, so nobody else can take it over. Then:
| Panel setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Admin password | Used to claim the server and sign in from Server Manager |
| Join password | The password players enter. Empty for none, or to keep one you set in game. |
| Autosaves to keep | mNumRotatingAutosaves in Engine.ini |
| Update on start | Updates the server on every start so it matches players' game version |
| Game branch | Stable or Experimental. Experimental needs every player on experimental too. |
| Repair files on start | Checks every game file on the next start. Slow, only for a server that will not boot. |
The player limit is set to your plan, 4, 8 or 12 players, and the connection timeouts are managed by the panel too, so those lines in the ini files are rewritten on every start. Email support@gamezservers.com if you need longer timeouts. The ports are already open. We use your game port and the port after it rather than 7777 and 8888, and Server Manager only needs the address and game port shown in your panel.
Everything in the Server Manager tables above you set in the game as normal. For files, open the Files tab, press Stop, edit, then Start, and take a Backup first. You keep 3. The Satisfactory hosting quick start walks through first setup, and if the admin password goes missing, see how to reset a Satisfactory server admin password.
FAQ
Where are the Satisfactory server settings stored?
Server Manager settings are saved by the server in its save folder, not in an ini file you edit. Advanced settings are in Game.ini and Engine.ini under FactoryGame/Saved/Config/.
How do I stop the factory running when nobody is online?
Turn Auto Pause on in Server Manager. The server then pauses whenever the last player leaves and resumes when someone joins.
Why did my ini changes disappear?
The server was running when you edited the file, and it wrote its own copy on shutdown. Stop the server, edit, then start it.
How do I make the server load my save after a restart?
Set Auto-Load Session Name in Server Manager to your session. Without it, a restart may not load the world you expect.
Can I change settings without the admin password?
No. Every server setting needs the admin password. Players who only know the join password can play but cannot change anything.
