To upload a Satisfactory save to a dedicated server, open Server Manager in the game, select your server, go to Manage Saves, click upload and pick your save, then load it. Your whole factory moves onto the server, and everyone keeps building from where you left off. If the upload button gives you trouble, you can also copy the .sav file straight into the server's save folder. Both ways are below.
Before you start
- Claim the server first. You need the admin password to manage saves. If nobody has claimed it yet, add it in Server Manager and claim it with a name and admin password.
- Update everything. The game and the server should be on the same version. A save from a newer game version will not load on an older server.
- Check your mods. If the save used mods, install the same mods on the server first, or anything they added is lost. See how to install mods on a Satisfactory server.
Step 1: Find your save on your PC
On Windows, press Windows + R, paste this and press Enter:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\
Open the folder with a long number as its name. That number is your account ID. Your saves are the .sav files inside, named after the session with a number or autosave on the end. Sort by Date modified to find the newest one.
Server Manager's upload window reads from this same folder, so you only need this step if you want to be sure which file is newest, or if you plan to copy the file by hand.
Step 2: Upload through Server Manager
- Launch Satisfactory and click Server Manager on the main menu.
- Select your server and log in with the admin password if asked.
- Open the Manage Saves tab.
- Click Upload Save and choose your save. It lists your local saves by session.
- When the upload finishes, select the save in the list and click Load Game.
The server loads the save, and after a moment your factory is running on the server. Everyone joins through Server Manager as usual.
Step 3: Set it to load automatically
In the server's settings, make sure the session you just loaded is the one the server picks up after a restart. Loading a save from Manage Saves normally sets this for you. If the server ever starts with the wrong world after a restart, load your save again from Manage Saves.
While you are in the settings, check Auto Pause. With it on, the factory stops when nobody is online. Turn it off if you want production to keep going.
Method 2: Copy the save file by hand
If the upload fails or you are moving a big save, copy it directly:
- Stop the server.
- Copy your
.savfile into the server's save folder:
| Server runs on | Save folder |
|---|---|
| Linux | ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/ |
| Windows | %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server\ |
| Windows as a service | %WINDIR%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server\ |
- Start the server.
- Open Server Manager, Manage Saves, select the save and click Load Game.
Moving a save off the server
The same tab works in reverse. In Manage Saves, select a save and download it to your PC. Do this before big experiments, before game updates and before you cancel a server, so you always have a copy of your factory.
Common problems
- Upload button does nothing or fails: try a smaller or newer save, check your connection, or use the hand copy method above.
- Save does not show in Manage Saves after copying: the file is in the wrong folder, still has a
.txtor double extension, or the server was running while you copied. Stop the server, check the path and name, and start it again. - "Save is from a newer version": update the server. On Steam, check you are not on the Experimental branch while the server is on Stable.
- Server loads a new world after restarting: load your save again in Manage Saves so it becomes the session the server loads.
- Missing buildings or items: the save used mods that the server does not have. Install the same mods and load the save again.
- Trains stuck after moving: a known issue. Rebuild the affected train stations in single player, save, and upload again.
Uploading to a GamezServers server
The Server Manager upload works on our servers just like anywhere else. For large saves, or if the in game upload is being stubborn:
- Press Backup, then Stop in the control panel.
- Open the Files tab and go to
.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/, then upload your.sav. For big files, use the SFTP login from Settings in FileZilla or WinSCP. - Press Start, then load the save from Manage Saves in Server Manager.
As the factory grows, you can move to a bigger plan in Settings and keep playing on the same save.
