Launch Midnight Ghost Hunt from Steam or the Epic Games Store.

Common problems
Can't find the server? The browser filters by region. Set Region in the panel to where your players are and restart.
The password only accepts letters, numbers, dashes and underscores. Spaces or symbols will stop the server from saving it.
After a game patch, restart the server so auto update pulls the new build, otherwise players get a version mismatch.
Want even teams every round? Add -NoAutobalance or -NoBots in Additional Args only if your group prefers it, both are optional.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Midnight Ghost Hunt server hosting, explained
Midnight Ghost Hunt is hide and seek with guns and teacups. Ghosts possess props around a haunted building, Hunters sweep rooms with gadgets and weapons, and at midnight the tables turn: ghosts get strong and hunt the hunters. Dead Hunters come back as ghosts, so a round that looks won can flip in the last minute. Vaulted Sky Games took it out of Early Access in March 2024 and has kept adding maps since, including the Farm in 2025.
Public games are fine for a quick round, but a server of your own means your group always lands in the same lobby with the same rules. It is a natural fit for Discord game nights and streamer viewer lobbies, where you want the password, mode and map set before anyone joins. Steam and Epic Games Store players can play together once they link accounts in game, so nobody gets left out because of the store they bought it on.

Additional args take extra launch flags like `-NoBots` or `-NoAutobalance`. Auto update is on, so a restart pulls the latest build. You also get the live console, file manager and one click backups. Restarts take seconds, so switching modes mid night is painless.
Matches are short and a full 6v6 is only 12 players, so this is not a demanding server. A 4v4 group runs well on 4 GB. If you run 6v6 or Darkness with bots filling empty slots most nights, 6 GB gives it room. 8 GB is only worth it for long community nights with lots of map swaps. You can change plans any time if you guessed wrong.

Common questions
How many players does a Midnight Ghost Hunt server hold?
Hunt is 4 Hunters against 4 Ghosts, so 8 players. The 6v6 Hunt mode in the Gamemode setting raises that to 12.
Can Steam and Epic players join the same server?
Yes. The game has crossplay between Steam and the Epic Games Store on PC. Players link their accounts in game to see each other. There is no console version.
Which game modes can my server run?
4v4 Hunt, 6v6 Hunt or Darkness. Change the Gamemode setting in the panel and restart.
Which maps can I start on?
The Server Map setting takes the stock maps such as Mansion, Asylum, Theatre, Museum, Ghost Ship, Carnival, School, Graveyard, Doll Factory and Mall.
Can I turn bots off?
Yes. Add -NoBots to Additional Args. Otherwise set Bot Difficulty to Easy, Normal, Hard or Auto, which matches the average player level.
How do I keep randoms out?
Set a server password in the panel. It can use letters, numbers, dashes and underscores.
Why is my server missing from the browser?
Most often the region filter. Make sure the Region setting matches what players filter by, and give it a minute after a restart to register.
Does the server update itself?
Yes. Auto update is on by default and checks for a new build every time the server starts.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
