Common problems
The config name in the panel must end in .txt and match a file in the configs folder exactly, or the server won't start.
Console players get kicked when a rotation loads a custom map or script mod. Keep those on a Steam only server, set with server_platform.
Log in as admin from the in game console (F1) with rc login and your admin password from the config file.
Config changes only apply after a restart, so edit between events, not during one.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your Holdfast: Nations At War server
Holdfast has official mod tools and Steam Workshop support. Regiments run uniform and flag packs, custom maps and script mods, loaded with mods_installed or load_mod lines in the server config.
Holdfast: Nations At War server hosting, explained
Holdfast: Nations At War is Anvil Game Studios' large scale shooter set in the Napoleonic Wars and World War 1. Battles are big and loud: infantry lines trading volleys, cavalry charges, artillery and naval fights, with up to 150 players on one server. The community runs on regiments, organized groups that drill formations and schedule events against each other, and most of those events happen on servers the regiments run themselves.
Holdfast servers are driven by plain text config files. Each one sets the server name, welcome message, region, passwords, maximum_players and a map rotation, where every entry picks a map and a game mode like ArmyBattlefield, ArmyConquest, CoastalSiege or a naval fight. Our panel chooses which config loads by name, so you can keep a public rotation, a training map and an event setup side by side and switch with a restart. You can also pick a beta branch in the panel.
Since update 3.0, PS5 and Xbox Series players can join Steam servers, and server_platform in the config decides whether that is allowed. Console players can't load map or script mods, so regiments that want crossplay stick to server only mods and keep custom maps on a separate Steam only server. Admins log in from the in game console and can kick, slay and mute without leaving the field, and those actions are written to log files you can read in the file manager.
Holdfast's server is lighter than its player counts suggest. A regiment drill or training server runs well on 4 GB. A public server that regularly sees around 100 players should be on 6 GB. Line battles at the full 150 cap, with horses and cannons on the field, want 8 GB, and back to back event nights with big mod sets are where 12 GB is worth it.

Common questions
How many players can a Holdfast server hold?
Up to 150. Set maximum_players in your config file through the file manager and restart.
Can console players join my Holdfast server?
Yes, since version 3.0 PS5 and Xbox Series players can join PC servers. Leave server_platform at None for crossplay, and avoid map and script mods, which consoles can't load.
Can I keep separate configs for events and public play?
Yes. Save each setup as its own .txt file in the configs folder, then pick which one loads with the Config Name setting in the panel and restart.
How do I add mods to my server?
Add mods_installed lines with the Workshop item IDs to your config. Use mods_installed_server_only for mods players don't need to download.
How do I log in as admin?
Open the console in game with F1 and type rc login followed by the server_admin_password from your config. Then you can use admin commands.
How do I password my server for a private event?
Uncomment server_password in your config, set the password and restart. Players are asked for it when they join.
Which game modes can I run?
Each rotation entry picks a game mode, such as ArmyBattlefield, ArmyConquest, ArmySiege or CoastalSiege, plus naval and melee modes. The official wiki lists them all.
Do players need to own Holdfast?
Yes, every player needs the game. The dedicated server is a free separate build that we install for you.
Is GamezServers affiliated with Holdfast: Nations At War?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated Holdfast: Nations At War server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
