What comes set up on a Colony Survival server

A colony per player

Each friend plants their own banner on the same map, or you share one colony and hand out permissions.

World online between sessions

The map stays up when you log off, so a friend in another time zone can work on their walls without you.

Room for up to 64

Set the player cap anywhere from 1 to 64 in the panel. Most friend groups sit well below that.

Backups before big patches

Colony Survival is still in Early Access. Take a one click backup before an update and roll back if a save misbehaves.

How to join your Colony Survival server

  1. 1

Launch Colony Survival on Steam and open Multiplayer from the main menu.

  2. 2

Open the internet server list and search for the server name you set in the panel.

  3. 3

Select the server and press join. Steam friends can also join straight from your Steam friends list.

  4. 4

Plant your banner to start a colony, or walk over to a friend's colony and ask them to add you.

Common problems

Can't find the server? Players search the server name from the panel in the in game browser. Pick a name that is easy to spot and doesn't clash with others.

Version mismatch after a patch: leave Auto update on so the server pulls the new build on restart and matches what Steam players have.

Mods must be on both sides. The server has no Workshop downloader, so upload mod folders with SFTP and make sure every player runs the same mods and versions.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your Colony Survival server

Colony Survival has its own Steam Workshop with mods for new jobs, blocks and research. For a server you upload the mod folders yourself and every player needs the same set.

Colony Survival server hosting, explained

Colony Survival, from the two person studio Pipliz, is a first person colony builder in a voxel world. You plant a banner, hire colonists into jobs like farming, mining and guard duty, research new tech and hold the walls when monsters arrive each night. In multiplayer each player can run their own colony on the same map, share one colony with friends, or give other players permissions to help build and trade.

A dedicated server keeps that shared world alive when the person who started it logs off. The map stays reachable for everyone, so a friend in another time zone can put in an evening on their walls without waiting for you. It is also the only way to have a group of more than a few players without one PC doing all the work, and the night attacks run on the server instead of the host's machine.

The panel covers the world name, server name, the player cap from 1 to 64 and auto update, which keeps the server on the same build as Steam players so nobody gets locked out after a patch. Mods come from the game's Steam Workshop, and long running ones like Pandaros Settlers add machines, new jobs and lots of research. Upload the mod folders over SFTP and have everyone run the same list.

Memory grows with how much of the world is loaded and how many colonies are running at once. A small group with a few colonies runs on 4 GB. Six to 8 GB suits ten or more players or colonies with hundreds of colonists, and a public or modded server pushing toward the player cap belongs on 12 GB. You can change plans any time as the colonies grow.

Common questions

How many players can a Colony Survival server hold?

Our default is 10 and the panel lets you set anything up to 64. Practical capacity depends on how big the colonies get, so raise the cap and the plan together.

Can each player have their own colony?

Yes. Every player can plant their own banner and run a separate colony, or friends can share one. Colony owners can add other players so they can help.

How do players find my server?

Through the server list in the Multiplayer menu, by the server name you set in the panel. Steam friends can also join through the Steam friends list.

Can I add Workshop mods to the server?

Yes. The server doesn't download Workshop mods on its own, so get the mod files on your PC, upload them with SFTP and enable them. Every player needs the same mods to join.

Will the server stay on the right version after updates?

Leave auto update on in the panel and the server pulls the latest build when it restarts. That keeps it matched to what Steam players run.

Can I bring my single player world?

Yes. Upload the save folder with the file manager or SFTP and set the world name in the panel to match it. Take a backup before you swap worlds.

How much RAM does a Colony Survival server need?

Around 2 GB is the baseline for a small world, but colonies with hundreds of colonists and mods push it up. Start at 4 GB and move up as colonies grow.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Colony Survival?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Colony Survival server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
