Common problems
Server won't start? Since Update 11, Eco servers sign in with a Strange Loop Games account. Fill in your username and password in the panel; your Steam copy can be linked to it at play.eco.
Not in the server list? Set Public Server to true in the panel and restart. Private servers are joined by address.
Meteor too soon or too late? Change the meteor timing in the server's config before your group gets too far, or turn it off for a pure building world.
Players on the server's whitelist don't need to enter the password.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your Eco server
Eco servers load mods from the server's Mods folder, with most now shared on mod.io and the Eco forums. Many are server side only, like admin tools and storage tweaks.
Eco server hosting, explained
Eco from Strange Loop Games is a civilization builder with a real ecosystem underneath. Players specialize in professions, trade through a player run economy with their own currencies, write laws and elect leaders, all while building enough technology to stop a meteor heading for the planet. Pollute too much or overhunt and the world pays for it. Nobody can do everything alone, so cooperation is the whole game.
Eco is meant to run on a persistent server. The meteor timer counts real days from when the server first starts, 30 by default, so the world has to stay up whether anyone is online or not. The panel covers the server name, password, max connections, description, category, language, Discord link, RCON and auto update, plus public listing and the web server that powers Eco's browser map, stats and laws.
Since Update 11, a dedicated server signs in with a Strange Loop Games account, so the panel asks for your SLG username and password. You don't buy the game twice: link your Steam copy to the account at play.eco. Server mods go into the Mods folder over SFTP, from tools like EasyServer, a web admin panel, to quality of life mods like StorageMore.
Memory grows with world size and age, not just players. A default sized world for around ten friends runs on 4 GB, but a world a few weeks in, full of roads, factories and pollution data, wants 8 GB. Public servers with larger maps and dozens of players should start at 12 GB, and the biggest worlds belong on 16 GB.

Common questions
Why does the Eco server need my Strange Loop Games login?
Since Update 11, every Eco dedicated server signs in with an SLG account to start. Use the account you play with, and link your Steam copy to it at play.eco if you haven't.
How long does an Eco server last before the meteor?
By default the meteor arrives 30 real days after the server first starts. You can change that in the server config, or turn the meteor off for a pure building server.
How many players can join an Eco server?
You set the cap with Max Connections in the panel, and -1 means no limit. A default world suits about ten people, and bigger groups need a bigger world and more memory.
How do players join?
Through Join Game in the main menu, by searching the server name or connecting directly with the address. Turn on Public Server in the panel to be listed.
What is the Eco web server for?
It serves a web page on its own port with the live world map, economy data, laws and elections. The port and URL are both settings in the panel.
Can I add mods to my Eco server?
Yes. Download mods from mod.io or the Eco forums, upload them to the server's Mods folder with SFTP and restart. Check that each mod supports your Eco version.
Can I keep the server private?
Yes. Leave Public Server off, set a password, and add your regulars to the whitelist so they skip the password.
Does Eco need a lot of RAM?
More than most building games, because the whole ecosystem keeps simulating. Start at 4 GB for a small default world and plan for 8 GB once it matures.
Is GamezServers affiliated with Eco?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated Eco server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
