There is no tModLoader 1.4.5 release date yet. As of the October 2026 Stable Update on 1 October 2026, tModLoader's stable release still runs on Terraria 1.4.4, and the 1.4.5 port lives on a public 1.4.5-dev beta branch that now includes the 1.4.5.8 hotfix (tModLoader on Steam, 1 October 2026). The team says it "will take many months still".

When will tModLoader update to 1.4.5?

No date has been given, and the tModLoader team has been consistent about that. Their 1.4.5 Update Information page, opened on 31 March 2026, says "Updating tModLoader to 1.4.5 is a large undertaking and will take many months yet." Re-Logic's September 2026 State of the Game repeated it: the port "as well as any other big changes desired by the modding community for this update will take many months still".

What has happened so far, from the official announcements:

Date Status
27 January 2026 Terraria 1.4.5 Bigger and Boulder launches. tModLoader stays on 1.4.4.
31 March 2026 tModLoader publishes its 1.4.5 Update Information page, which explains the 1.4.5-dev beta branch for contributors.
August 2026 Re-Logic releases 1.4.5.7 and the 1.4.5.8 hotfix. The tModLoader team starts merging them into the port.
1 October 2026 October Stable Update. 1.4.5.8 changes are fully merged into the dev build. Stable remains on 1.4.4 (release v2026.08.3.0).

Why is tModLoader 1.4.5 taking so long?

Terraria 1.4.5 changed a huge amount of the game's code. tModLoader works by patching Terraria's code, and the team explains that many of its patches "were unable to be applied and are temporarily disabled", so large parts have to be reimplemented, reworked or removed. Each Re-Logic hotfix adds more to merge. The 1.4.5.8 hotfix alone was described as having "quite a lot of code changes to adapt to".

The team is also treating 1.4.5 as a chance to fix long standing API problems. The October announcement invites modders to "discuss any tModLoader API shortcomings", because "major releases present an opportunity to fix issues that couldn't be addressed properly in regular monthly releases". That makes the update better, but slower.

Will my mods work on tModLoader 1.4.5?

Not straight away. The FAQ answers this directly: "Due to how much has changed in the Terraria v1.4.5 update, the short answer to this is 'no'." Mods will need updates from their authors, and big mods like Calamity and Thorium will take time after tModLoader itself is ready. The team says modders will get time to update before the official release.

The good news for players: "1.4.4 mods and the 1.4.4 version of tModLoader will continue to exist and be available for players both during porting and after." Your current modpack is not going away.

Can you play tModLoader 1.4.5 now?

Technically yes, through the 1.4.5-dev beta branch on Steam, but it is not meant for normal play. The team warns: "This 1.4.5 development build is mainly for contributors and we don't want regular users to use it expecting it to be playable or stable. It will change daily and bugs will happen." The branch password and steps are on the 1.4.5 Update Information page. Do not point a server you care about at it.

Will my modded worlds and characters carry over?

The team's stated aim is to make the move "as seamless as possible" and to "maintain backwards compatibility". That is a goal, not a guarantee for every mod, since mod content in a world depends on that mod updating too. Back up your worlds and players before you ever switch versions. Our guide on uploading a Terraria world to a server shows where the files live.

What this means for your modded server

  1. Keep your tModLoader server on the stable 1.4.4 release. That is where Calamity, Thorium and nearly every mod on the Workshop work today. The October stable is v2026.08.3.0.
  2. Players must use the same tModLoader version as the server. If someone joins the beta branch, they cannot join your stable server until they switch back.
  3. Vanilla players on 1.4.5 cannot join a tModLoader server, and tModLoader players cannot join a vanilla 1.4.5 server. They are separate games on Steam.
  4. Want the 1.4.5 content with friends now? Run a vanilla or TShock server alongside your modded one. The Terraria 1.4.5.8 update guide covers which versions to use.
  5. Expect a transition period. When tModLoader 1.4.5 ships, many mods will lag behind. Plan to keep a 1.4.4 server running until your full mod list has updated.

Running tModLoader on GamezServers

Switch any of our Terraria servers to tModLoader in the panel, upload your .tmod files to the mods folder and list them in mods/enabled.json. The tModLoader version setting takes latest or an exact release tag like v2026.08.3.0, so you control when the server moves to a new version. Calamity and big mod lists run best on 4 to 6 GB: plans are 9.99 USD for 4 GB and 14.99 USD for 6 GB a month, with 50% off the first month for new customers. FAQ

Is tModLoader 1.4.5 out?

No. As of 1 October 2026 the stable release is still based on Terraria 1.4.4. A development build is available on the 1.4.5-dev beta branch for contributors.

Is there a tModLoader 1.4.5 release date?

No. The tModLoader team says the update will take many months and has not given a date.

Will Calamity work on tModLoader 1.4.5?

Not on day one. Every mod needs updating for 1.4.5, and Calamity's team will need time after tModLoader releases.

Can I still play tModLoader on 1.4.4?

Yes. The team has promised that tModLoader for 1.4.4 and its mods will stay available during and after the port.
