Myth of Empires Server Not Showing in Custom Server List? Fixes

A Myth of Empires private server missing from Custom Server is usually still loading, on the wrong tab, behind a closed query port or out of date. Fix each.

If your Myth of Empires private server is not in the Custom Server list, first confirm it has finished starting: the console should show ServerState:EGameServerState::SERVER_STATE_OPENED, which can take several minutes on a big map. Then make sure players search on the Single Server tab (not the cluster tab) for the exact server name, and that the game, query and remote management ports are open and unique. If it still does not appear, the server is usually on an older build than the clients, so update it with SteamCMD (app ID 1794810) and restart.

Because Myth of Empires has no direct IP connect in the client, a server that is not listed is a server nobody can join. That makes this the most common support question for private servers.

Step 1: Wait for SERVER_STATE_OPENED

Myth of Empires worlds are large, and the server loads the whole map, buildings, troops and NPCs before it accepts players. Until it does, it is not listed. Watch the server console for the line the official guide gives as proof of a successful start:

ServerId:100, ServerState:EGameServerState::SERVER_STATE_OPENED

The number after ServerId is your own Server ID. Only search for the server once that line appears. If the console stops before it, or the server restarts in a loop, the problem is the server itself, not the list. The usual causes are not enough memory for the map and the save, or a corrupted save after a crash.

Step 2: Search on the right tab

The Custom Server screen has separate tabs for single servers and cluster (world) servers. A private server started from PrivateServerTool, or rented as a single server, lists under the Single Server tab.

  1. Open Custom Server.
  2. Choose the Single Server tab.
  3. Type part of your server name in the search box.
  4. Click Refresh after a minute if it is not there yet.
  5. Star the server once you find it, so it stays at the top of the list.

Pick a distinctive name. Names like "PvE Server" return dozens of results.

Step 3: Check the ports

Each private server uses three ports, and the official guide asks that each is different, between 1024 and 65535, and not in use:

Port Common value Purpose
Game port 11888 Player connections
Query port 12888 Server list queries
Remote management port Your choice Remote tools and shutdown service

The list depends on the query port. If it is closed on your router or firewall, or two servers on one machine share it, the server will not be listed even though it is running. Forward the game and query ports for both TCP and UDP to the server machine, and give every server on the same machine its own set. Our port forwarding guide covers routers and Windows Firewall rules.

Step 4: Check the public address

The server tells the list which address to advertise. In the launch parameters that is -OutAddress= (with -MultiHome= for the interface it binds to). If -OutAddress holds your local network address, such as 192.168.1.20, players outside your home will see a server they cannot reach, or the list will not show it. Set it to your public IP. If your public IP and your router's WAN IP differ, your provider is using carrier grade NAT and inbound connections will not work. See how to tell if you are behind CGNAT.

PrivateServerTool also has a P2P Mode that lets players in without a public IP. The developer calls it unstable on complex networks, so treat it as a last resort.

Step 5: Update the server

When the game updates, players get the new client from Steam right away. A private server left on the old build disappears from what they can see. Update it:

steamcmd +@sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows +force_install_dir C:\servers\moe +login anonymous +app_update 1794810 validate +quit

Then restart and wait for SERVER_STATE_OPENED again. Back up the save before updating, since a patch can change how saves load. Saves live under MOE/Saved/SaveGames, in folders tied to your Server ID.

Step 6: Check the Server ID did not change

This one looks like a listing problem but is not. If the Server ID changed, the server starts a fresh world under the new ID. It is listed, but players do not recognize it, or a password and name from the old setup no longer match. Our guide on moving a Myth of Empires save covers how the Server ID and saves fit together.

Quick reference

Symptom Likely cause
Console never shows SERVER_STATE_OPENED Still loading, out of memory, or bad save
Running, not in the list Query port closed or shared, or wrong tab
Listed, but joins time out Game port closed, or -OutAddress is a local IP
Vanished after a game update Server build out of date
Listed, but the world is empty Server ID changed

The hosted way around it

On a GamezServers Myth of Empires server, the ports are assigned and open on a fixed address, the public address is set for you, and Auto Update checks for a new server build on every start, which removes Steps 3 to 5. The live console shows the SERVER_STATE_OPENED line, so you know exactly when to tell your guild to refresh. The Server ID and Cluster ID are panel fields, and one click backups protect the world before a map or ID change. Myth of Empires is one of the heaviest games we host, so give it enough memory: 8 GB for a small PvE group, 12 GB for the default 25 players and 16 GB for busy PvP. No. The client has no direct IP connect. Players find the server by name under Custom Server, on the Single Server tab.

How long does a Myth of Empires server take to start?

Several minutes on a large map with an established save. Wait for SERVER_STATE_OPENED in the console before searching for it.

What ports does a Myth of Empires private server need?

A game port, a query port and a remote management port, each unique and between 1024 and 65535. 11888 and 12888 are common choices for the first two.

Why did my server reset after I changed a setting?
