Myth of Empires Server Launch Parameters Explained (MOEServer.exe)

What each Myth of Empires private server launch parameter does: the map, -SessionName, -GameServerPVPType, -MaxPlayers, -ServerId, GM accounts and more.

A Myth of Empires private server is configured almost entirely through launch parameters on MOEServer.exe. PrivateServerTool writes them into StartPrivateServer.bat when you click Save Config. The ones that matter most are the map name (first argument), -SessionName for the server name, -GameServerPVPType for PvP or PvE, -MaxPlayers, -ServerId (which ties the server to its save), -Port and -QueryPort, -ServerAdminAccounts for GM Steam IDs, and the shutdown service flags for remote management. Every gameplay tweak you make in the tool's Advanced Settings tabs also becomes a -Something=value flag on the same line.

Knowing what the line does is useful in two situations: when you run the server without the tool, and when you move a server to a host and need to carry your settings across.

A full launch line

This is the shape of a working single server line, the same structure PrivateServerTool produces:

MOEServer.exe LargeTerrain_Central_Main -game -server -DataLocalFile -NotCheckServerSteamAuth -LOCALLOGTIMES -PrivateServer -MultiHome=0.0.0.0 -OutAddress=203.0.113.10 -SessionName="Iron Banner PvE" -GameServerPVPType=0 -MaxPlayers=25 -MapDifficultyRate=1 -UseACE -EnableVACBan=1 -ServerId=100 -ClusterId=1 -Port=11888 -QueryPort=12888 -bStartShutDownServiceInPrivateServer=true -ShutDownServiceIP=127.0.0.1 -ShutDownServicePort=13888 -ShutDownServiceKey="a-long-key" -ServerAdminAccounts="76561198000000000"

The map

The first argument after the executable is the map. The two main world maps the dedicated server ships with are:

Map name Notes
LargeTerrain_Central_Main The default world map
LargeTerrain_Central2_Main The second world map

Changing the map starts a different world. Back up first if you want to keep the old one.

Identity and players

Parameter What it does
-SessionName="..." Server name players search for under Custom Server. Quote it if it has spaces
-MaxPlayers=25 Player cap
-GameServerPVPType=1 1 for PvP, 0 for PvE
-ServerAdminAccounts="id;id" SteamID64s of GMs, separated by semicolons

-ServerAdminAccounts is the launch line version of the GM Accounts field in PrivateServerTool. Use the 17 digit SteamID64, not a profile name, and restart after changing it.

Server and cluster IDs

Parameter What it does
-ServerId=100 Identifies this server and its save
-ClusterId=1 Groups servers that belong to one cluster

The Server ID is the setting to never change casually. Saves are stored by Server ID, so a new value boots a fresh world while the old one sits untouched on disk. If that has happened to you, our guide on moving a Myth of Empires save explains how the folders and ID fit together.

Network

Parameter What it does
-Port=11888 Game port
-QueryPort=12888 Query port for the server list
-MultiHome=0.0.0.0 Network interface to listen on. 0.0.0.0 means all
-OutAddress=... Public IP the server advertises to the list

Every server on one machine needs its own ports. -OutAddress must be your public IP. A local address there is a classic reason a server shows up but nobody can join. If your server is missing from the list entirely, see our Custom Server list fix guide.

Remote management

Parameter What it does
-bStartShutDownServiceInPrivateServer=true Turns on the remote management (shutdown) service
-ShutDownServiceIP=127.0.0.1 Address the service listens on
-ShutDownServicePort=13888 Its port, the "Remote Management Port" in the tool
-ShutDownServiceKey="..." Its password

The official guide says remote management is on by default and lets you manage the server with tools like RCON. Use a long key, and keep the service on 127.0.0.1 unless you really need to reach it from another machine.

Engine and anti cheat flags

Parameter What it does
-game -server Runs the executable as a dedicated game server
-PrivateServer Marks it as a private (custom) server
-DataLocalFile Uses local data files, the default single server setup
-NotCheckServerSteamAuth Skips a Steam authentication check on the server side
-LOCALLOGTIMES Writes log timestamps in local time
-UseACE Enables the game's anti cheat
-EnableVACBan=1 Respects Steam VAC bans
-MapDifficultyRate=1 Overall map difficulty, 1 is normal

Leave these as PrivateServerTool writes them. They describe how the server runs, not how the game plays.

Gameplay flags from Advanced Settings

Everything you change in PrivateServerTool's Advanced Settings through Guild Settings tabs, such as rates and progression, is written into the launch line as extra -Name=value flags. They all follow the same pattern, for example:

-ServerLevelAddMul=1.01

The easiest way to get the exact names and values for your rules:

  1. Open PrivateServerTool on your own PC (it is in the game's PrivateServerTool folder, or under Custom Server, Single Server, Create Server).
  2. Set the Advanced Settings the way you want and click Save Config.
  3. Open the generated StartPrivateServer.bat in a text editor.
  4. Copy the flags that were not in the basic line above.

Those flags are your custom rules, ready to paste wherever the server runs.

How this maps to a hosted server

On a GamezServers Myth of Empires server the launch line is built for you. The panel fields map directly onto it: Map Name, Server Name (-SessionName), Enable PVP (-GameServerPVPType), Max Players up to 150, Admin IDs (-ServerAdminAccounts), Server ID and Cluster ID, plus the RCON port and password for the shutdown service. Anything else goes in Extra Flags: paste the gameplay flags from your own StartPrivateServer.bat, each starting with a -, and restart. The address, ports and auto update are handled for you. For the full self hosted walkthrough, see our Myth of Empires hosting guide.

How do I add GMs without PrivateServerTool?

Where does PrivateServerTool save my settings?

In StartPrivateServer.bat, as launch parameters. You can run that file directly from then on.
