To host a Frozen Flame server, install the free dedicated server with SteamCMD (app 1348640), create Game.ini in FrozenFlame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer (or LinuxServer) for player count, password, PvP and balance, and start it with -log -MetaGameServerName="Your Name" -Port=7777 -queryPort=25575. Open UDP 7777 and 25575. The game mode (Campaign or Cataclysm) and public listing are set in Engine.ini, not Game.ini, which is where most setups go wrong.

Is Frozen Flame still worth hosting in 2026?

Frozen Flame is still in Early Access, and work on it has slowed while Dreamside Interactive sorts out publishing rights with Ravenage. The developers say the game is not abandoned, and both the game and the dedicated server still install and run from Steam. For a group that enjoys it, a server keeps the world going. Just do not expect regular patches, and keep a backup of the world in case one arrives.

What do you need to run a Frozen Flame server?

The server is an Unreal Engine build that needs a static public IP so players can reach it. It does not need a copy of the game.

Group RAM Notes
2 to 4 friends 4 GB Fresh world, one base
Up to 10 players 8 GB The default player cap
Bigger caps or month old worlds 12 GB Many bases and explored regions

Memory grows with the area your group has explored and the number of structures, so a server that runs fine in week one may want more later.

How do I install the Frozen Flame dedicated server?

 1. Install SteamCMD, or find Frozen Flame - Dedicated Server in your Steam library under Tools.
 2. Download the server:
steamcmd +force_install_dir C:\frozenflame-server +login anonymous +app_update 1348640 validate +quit
 1. Create a start script with your settings:
FrozenFlameServer.exe -log -LOCALLOGTIMES -MetaGameServerName="Ember Hollow" -Port=7777 -queryPort=25575 -RconPort=27015 -RconPassword=changeme

On Linux the binary is FrozenFlame/Binaries/Linux/FrozenFlameServer-Linux-Shipping with the same arguments. Dreamside's server repository lists every argument and has example config files.

Argument What it does
-log Shows the server console
-MetaGameServerName= Server name
-Port= Game port players connect to
-queryPort= Steam query port
-RconPort=, -RconPassword= Remote console
-ip= Your public IP, if the server binds to the wrong one
-noeac Starts without EasyAntiCheat (players must also launch without it)

What goes in Game.ini?

Create Game.ini in FrozenFlame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ (LinuxServer on Linux). The key parts:

[/Script/Engine.GameSession]
MaxPlayers=10

[/Script/FrozenFlame.FGameSession]
ServerPassword="emberkeep"

[/Script/FrozenFlame.GameBalance]
bFreePVP=False
DurationOfDay=3600
MonstersHealthMultiplier=1
MonstersDamageMultiplier=1
bDropEquippedItems=False
bInvulnerableModules=False
bAllowCreaturesToDamageBuildings=False
bAllowPlayersToDamageBuildings=True
Key What it does Notes
MaxPlayers Player cap 10 in the example file
ServerPassword Join password, in quotes Empty quotes for none
bFreePVP PvP against non friends False for a co-op world
DurationOfDay Day length 3600 by default
MonstersHealthMultiplier, MonstersDamageMultiplier Monster difficulty 1 is normal
HealthRateAfterRespawn Health after death 0.5 by default
bDropEquippedItems, bDropEquipableItems, bDropFoodItems What drops on death Death penalty
bNoModuleCost Building without material costs For build focused groups
bInvulnerableModules Buildings never decay Removes upkeep
bAllowPlayersToDamageBuildings Players can break others' buildings Turn off for co-op
bAllowCreaturesToDamageBuildings Creatures can break buildings False by default

Restart after every change. Settings load on start only.

The gotcha: game mode lives in Engine.ini

Frozen Flame has two modes on servers: Campaign (the Heaven map) and Cataclysm (the Survive map). Which one loads is not a Game.ini setting. It is ServerDefaultMap in Engine.ini, in the same config folder:

[/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings]
ServerDefaultMap=/Game/GameModeSurvive/Maps/Survive/Survive.Survive
;ServerDefaultMap=/Game/FrozenFlame/Maps/Heaven/Heaven.Heaven

Swap the semicolon to change mode. Two more traps sit next to it:

 • Mode files override Game.ini. Each mode has default values that can only be changed in its own file (HeavenNormal.ini for Campaign, GameModeSurvive.ini for Cataclysm), placed in the same folder. If a death drop or tutorial setting refuses to change in Game.ini, set it in the mode file instead.
 • Public listing is also in Engine.ini. The server only shows in the public list with the lines (MetaServerUrl and MetaServerSecret) from Dreamside's example Engine.ini. Without them, friends must add the server by address.

What ports does a Frozen Flame server use?

Port Protocol Used for
7777 UDP (and TCP) Game, the port players connect to
25575 UDP Query
27015 TCP RCON

Forward the game and query ports on your router. Our port forwarding guide has the steps.

How do players join a Frozen Flame server?

 1. In Frozen Flame, go to Play, then Private Server.
 2. Click Add and enter the server's IP and port.
 3. Select it, connect, and type the password.

Every player needs the current Steam build. With the game patching rarely, a version mismatch usually means someone opted into a beta.

How do I use RCON?

Connect with any RCON tool (for example mcrcon) to the server IP and RCON port. The password must be entered as admin:<your RCON password>. Useful commands from Dreamside's list include Admin_GetOnlinePlayers, Admin_KickPlayer, Admin_Ban, Admin_SaveAll and Admin_Restart.

Moving an existing world onto it

Server saves live in FrozenFlame/Saved/SaveGames. To move a world from another server, stop both, copy that folder across, copy your Game.ini, Engine.ini and any mode ini files with it, and start the new server. Keep a backup of the folder you are replacing.

Common problems

 • Players disconnect after 20 to 30 seconds: EasyAntiCheat is not running on the server or on the client. Check the end of the server log for the EOS session line, or run both without EAC.
 • Server not in the public list: the lines are missing from Engine.ini. Add them, or join by address.
 • Wrong mode loads: ServerDefaultMap in Engine.ini points at the other map.
 • A balance setting is ignored: that value is controlled by the mode file. Set it there.
 • Server crashes after the tutorial: Dreamside's fix is installing the regular Steam client on the server machine once.

FAQ

How many players can join a Frozen Flame server?

The example config uses MaxPlayers=10. You can raise it, but each player loads more of the map, so add RAM as you go.

How do I turn off PvP in Frozen Flame?

Set bFreePVP=False in Game.ini and restart. Turn off bAllowPlayersToDamageBuildings as well for a fully co-op world.

How do I switch between Campaign and Cataclysm?

Change ServerDefaultMap in Engine.ini to the Heaven map for Campaign or the Survive map for Cataclysm, then restart.

Does Frozen Flame support mods?

No. There is no mod support, so servers are customized through the ini files.

The easy option: host it with us

Frozen Flame hosting on GamezServers starts at 9.99 USD a month for 4 GB, with 8 GB and 12 GB plans and 50% off the first month for new customers. The panel passes the server name and RCON password on the start line and writes MaxPlayers and ServerPassword into Game.ini every time the server starts, so set those in the panel. Everything else (bFreePVP, multipliers, Engine.ini) is yours in the file manager. Take a one click Backup before changing modes.
