To add Workshop mods to a Squad 44 server, subscribe to the mod in Steam, find its folder under steamapps/workshop/content/736220/<Workshop ID> on your PC, and upload that whole folder into PostScriptum/Plugins/Mods/ on the server (create Plugins and Mods if they are missing). Restart, and the modded maps and layers become available to add to MapRotation.cfg. Every player needs to subscribe to the same Workshop items before joining a modded layer.
The game is now called Squad 44, but the server still uses the PostScriptum folder from its Post Scriptum days, so that is where everything goes.

What Workshop mods do on a server
Squad 44 mods on the Steam Workshop range from single custom maps to large overhauls with new factions and fronts. On a server they come in two broad kinds:
- Map and layer mods. These add playable layers. Nothing changes until you put those layers in the rotation or switch to one with
AdminChangeMap. - Gameplay mods. These change weapons, vehicles, factions or rules, often tied to their own layers.
Either way, the mod's own Workshop page is the source of truth for what it adds and which layers to use. Read it before you upload.
Step 1: Get the mod files
The simplest route uses your own game client:
- Subscribe to the mod in the Squad 44 Workshop and let Steam download it.
- Find the folder on your PC:
Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/736220/. Each mod is a folder named after its Workshop ID, the number at the end of the mod's Workshop URL. - Copy the whole numbered folder. Do not open it and copy only some files.
On a Linux box with SteamCMD you can also fetch a mod straight onto the server:
steamcmd +login youraccount +workshop_download_item 736220 1234567890 +quit
Workshop downloads for this game usually need a Steam account that owns it, so the anonymous login used to install the server may not work here. The files land in SteamCMD's own steamapps/workshop/content/736220/1234567890 folder, which you then copy into the server.
Step 2: Put it in Plugins/Mods
On the server, go to the PostScriptum folder (the same one that holds ServerConfig and Binaries). Create the folders if needed so the path is:
PostScriptum/Plugins/Mods/1234567890/
with the mod's contents inside that numbered folder. Repeat for each mod. Big mods are several gigabytes, so use SFTP rather than a browser upload, and check that the folder size on the server matches the one on your PC when it finishes.
Common placement mistakes:
PostScriptum/Mods/instead ofPostScriptum/Plugins/Mods/.- A folder inside a folder:
Mods/1234567890/1234567890/. - Only the
.pakfile copied, without the rest of the mod's files.
Step 3: Restart and check the console
Restart the server and watch the console during start. The server lists the mod content it finds as it loads, so a mod that is in the right place shows up there, and a mod that is in the wrong place simply is not mentioned. If the server fails to start right after adding a mod, remove that mod's folder, start again, and check the mod page for a note about game version: mods built for an older version can break after a Squad 44 patch until their author updates them.
Step 4: Add modded layers to the rotation
Open PostScriptum/ServerConfig/MapRotation.cfg and add the modded layer names, one per line, the same way stock layers are listed. The mod's Workshop page or included readme usually lists the layer names. You can also test from the console first:
AdminChangeMap <ModdedLayerName>
Tab completion in the console shows modded layers once the mod is loaded, which confirms both that the mod works and how its layers are spelled. Once a layer loads cleanly, copy the exact name into MapRotation.cfg and restart.
A good pattern for a community that wants a mod night without splitting the player base: keep a stock rotation file as your everyday setup, keep a second one with modded layers, and swap the files before the event. Take a backup first so going back is one step.
Step 5: Get your players ready
Players do not receive mods from the server when they connect. Each player must subscribe to every Workshop mod the layer needs before they join, or they cannot play on it. To make that painless:
- Make a Steam Workshop collection with exactly the mods your server runs, and post the link in your Discord and in
Motd.cfg. - Ask players to subscribe and launch the game once so Steam downloads everything before event night.
- When you update or add a mod, tell people. A player with an older version of a mod can be kicked or fail to load the layer.
Keeping mods updated
Workshop authors update mods, especially after a game patch. Your server copy does not update by itself when you upload by hand. After a Squad 44 update:
- Update the server.
- Check each mod's Workshop page for a new version.
- Re-download and re-upload changed mods over the old folders.
- Restart and load each modded layer once before players arrive.
If a mod is abandoned and broken after a patch, take its layers out of the rotation so the server does not get stuck trying to load them.

Running modded Squad 44 with us
Modded servers need room: large custom maps plus 80 players is why we suggest 16 GB for a full modded server, and you can change plans in the panel any time with the cost prorated. On a GamezServers Squad 44 server you get SFTP for multi gigabyte mod uploads, a live console to watch mods load, and one click backups before you swap rotations. If you have not set up the base server yet, start with how to host a Squad 44 server, and for event admins see adding admins on Squad 44.
FAQ
Where do Squad 44 server mods go?
In PostScriptum/Plugins/Mods/, one folder per mod named after its Workshop ID. Create the Plugins and Mods folders if they do not exist.
Do players download mods from the server automatically?
No. Every player must subscribe to the same Workshop mods before joining a modded layer. A Workshop collection makes that easy.
Why does my modded layer not show up?
The mod folder is in the wrong place, is incomplete, or is out of date for the current game version. Check the path, re-upload the whole folder and restart.
What is the Workshop app ID for Squad 44?
- Mods download on your PC to
steamapps/workshop/content/736220/.
