- The easy option
An Enshrouded dedicated server needs about 4.4 GB of RAM when idle plus up to 100 MB per player, so roughly 6 GB for a full 16 players, according to Keen Games. Keen recommends a 6 core CPU for 4 to 6 players and an 8 core CPU for 16, 2 Mbit/s of upload per player, 16 GB in the whole machine and an SSD. The server is a Windows program installed with SteamCMD as app ID 2278520.
What are the official Enshrouded server requirements?
These figures come from Keen Games' dedicated server FAQ:
| Component | Keen's figure |
|---|---|
| Server RAM, idle | About 4.4 GB |
| Extra RAM per player | Up to 100 MB |
| Server RAM, total | Should not exceed 6 GB |
| System RAM (whole machine) | 16 GB recommended |
| CPU, 4 to 6 players | 6 cores, 12 threads, around 3.2 GHz |
| CPU, 16 players | 8 cores, 16 threads, around 3.7 GHz |
| Upload | 2 Mbit/s per player |
| Download | Roughly the same as upload |
| Saves | Up to about 100 MB per world |
| Operating system | Windows (runs on Linux through Wine or Proton) |
| Install | SteamCMD, app ID 2278520, anonymous login |
No graphics card is needed. The server has no display and is configured through one file, enshrouded_server.json.
How much RAM does an Enshrouded server need?
On paper, 6 GB. In practice, plan for more. The 4.4 GB idle figure is a fresh process on a fresh world, and three things push real usage above it:
- The world grows. Enshrouded is a voxel game. Every base players build and every tunnel they dig becomes part of the world the server tracks and saves, and saves grow from around 1 MB to as much as 100 MB on worlds with big bases.
- Linux hosting. Most hosted servers run the Windows server through a compatibility layer on Linux, which adds overhead.
- Long uptimes and updates. Memory creeps up over days of running, and big releases like 1.0 add content to keep loaded.
The sizes we plan around, with comfortable headroom:
| Group | RAM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 4 players | 8 GB | A duo or small group with one shared base |
| Up to 8 players | 12 GB | Several bases, players spread over biomes |
| Up to 16 players | 16 GB | A full world with large bases |
If you self host on a PC you also play on, remember that the Enshrouded client itself wants plenty of memory. Running both on a 16 GB machine is tight once the world matures.
What CPU does an Enshrouded server need?
CPU matters more than RAM as the group grows. Each player who explores a different area makes the server load and simulate that part of the map, with its enemies and physics. Keen's recommendation scales from a 6 core, 12 thread CPU at about 3.2 GHz for 4 to 6 players to an 8 core, 16 thread CPU at about 3.7 GHz for a full 16.
What that means in practice:
- A modern desktop CPU handles a small group easily.
- Old server CPUs with many slow cores are a poor fit, because clock speed counts.
- Signs the CPU is the limit: rubber banding for everyone at once, enemies freezing, and slow building response when the whole group is online. Our Enshrouded server lag fix shows how to tell CPU from network problems.

How much bandwidth does an Enshrouded server need?
Keen recommends 2 Mbit/s of upload per player, with download roughly matching:
| Players | Upload needed |
|---|---|
| 4 | About 8 Mbit/s |
| 8 | About 16 Mbit/s |
| 16 | About 32 Mbit/s |
Upload is where home hosting usually falls short. Many home connections have far less upload than download, and someone gaming or streaming on the same line eats into it. If you self host, test your real upload speed at the busiest time of day, not the advertised figure.
How much disk space does an Enshrouded server need?
Use an SSD. The world loads and saves faster from solid state storage than from a hard drive. Leave around 30 GB free for the server files, updates, logs and backups. World saves themselves stay small, up to about 100 MB each, so keeping several backups costs little space.
What ports does an Enshrouded server use?
One: UDP 15637, set by queryPort in enshrouded_server.json. Since Content Update #2 the server only listens on that port. Forward it on your router if you self host, and see how to port forward a game server if your router is unfamiliar.
Does player count change the requirements?
Yes, though mostly through CPU and bandwidth rather than memory. The hard limit is 16 players, set by slotCount from 1 to 16. If a server struggles, Keen's own docs suggest lowering slotCount, since fewer players means less load. Our Enshrouded how many players guide goes deeper on group sizes and reserved slots.
Will Enshrouded 1.0 need more resources?
Probably a little. Enshrouded 1.0 releases on 15 October 2026 with a new biome, a new enemy tier and level cap 50. Keen has said 1.0 includes performance work for players' PCs, but has not published new server requirements. A new biome means more world to simulate when players spread out, so the headroom in the table above is worth having. Back up before updating. The checklist is in our Enshrouded 1.0 release guide.
Self hosting checklist
To host 16 players yourself, plan for:
- An 8 core CPU with good clock speed.
- 16 GB of RAM in the machine.
- An SSD with about 30 GB free.
- Around 32 Mbit/s of upload dedicated to the server.
- UDP 15637 forwarded.
- Windows, or Linux with Wine or Proton.
- A machine that stays on whenever anyone wants to play.

FAQ
How much RAM does an Enshrouded dedicated server use?
About 4.4 GB idle plus up to 100 MB per player, so around 6 GB at 16 players according to Keen. Plan for 8 to 16 GB on a real world with big bases.
Can I run an Enshrouded server on Linux?
Not natively. The server is a Windows program, but it runs on Linux through Wine or Proton, which is how most hosted servers run it.
Does an Enshrouded server need a graphics card?
No. The dedicated server runs without graphics.
How much upload do I need to host Enshrouded?
Keen recommends 2 Mbit/s per player, so about 32 Mbit/s for a full 16 player server.
Can I host Enshrouded and play on the same PC?
Yes, for a small group, if the PC has enough RAM and CPU for both. The world is only online while that PC is on.
The easy option
Our Enshrouded server hosting is sized to the table above: 8 GB for up to 4 players, 12 GB for 8 and 16 GB for 16, from 19.99 USD a month. The server updates Enshrouded on every start, the Friend and Admin passwords are panel settings, and you can take a backup before 1.0 lands. Upgrade or downgrade any time as your world grows, and new customers get 50% off the first month on monthly plans.
