An Enshrouded dedicated server costs about 20 to 40 USD a month hosted, depending on group size: 8 GB (19.99 USD) for up to 4 players, 12 GB (29.99 USD) for up to 8 with a growing base, and 16 GB (39.99 USD) for a full 16 player world with large bases. Enshrouded is heavier than most survival games because its whole voxel world, including every base players dig and build, stays loaded. Split among a group, that is roughly 5 to 6 USD each.

With Enshrouded 1.0 releasing on 15 October 2026, a lot of groups are coming back. Here is how to choose a size, what it costs per player, and how the free ways to play compare.

Monthly cost by group size

Group Plan Monthly price Per player, split evenly
Up to 4 players 8 GB 19.99 USD about 6.00 USD for 4
Up to 8 players, growing base 12 GB 29.99 USD about 4.75 USD for 8
Full 16 player world, large bases 16 GB 39.99 USD about 5.00 USD for 10 payers

Per player prices use a GamezServers split bill, which adds a 1 USD fee per share and allows up to 10 payers. A 16 player group can still have 10 people pay and the rest chip in to one of them.

New customers get 50% off the first month, so launch month on the 8 GB plan costs about 10 USD.

Why Enshrouded needs more memory than it looks

Most survival games only load the world around players. Enshrouded's world is fully voxel based: terrain you dig out, every block of every base, and the state of the Shroud all live in the server's memory, and the server keeps simulating it. Three things push memory up:

  1. Base size. Large castles and terraformed land cost more than small huts.
  2. Players spread out. Each player exploring a different region loads more of the map.
  3. Time. Worlds get heavier as people build and dig over weeks.

That is why 8 GB is the floor even for a small group. Our Enshrouded server requirements guide has the hardware detail.

No mods, so the bill is predictable

Enshrouded has no official mod support for dedicated servers. That is a downside if you want mods, but it means your server's needs depend only on players and building, not on a growing mod list. Pick the size for your peak group and you will rarely need to change it. You can still tune a lot with the custom game settings: see Enshrouded server settings.

Will 1.0 change the cost?

Big releases add content: new regions, systems and items. Expect the server to use somewhat more memory on a long played 1.0 world than on an early access save of the same age. Two sensible moves:

  • Back up before updating. Big releases can change how saves load.
  • Watch the first busy weekend. If memory gets tight, move up a plan. With prorated plan changes, an upgrade mid month only costs the difference for the days left.

The free options

Host from your game

One player hosts, others join through the in game server list. It costs nothing, but the world only exists while the host plays, and their PC runs the server and the game at once. If your group plays at different times, everyone waits for the host.

Run the dedicated server yourself

The Enshrouded dedicated server is free, installed with SteamCMD under app ID 2278520. Some things to know before choosing this route:

  • It is a Windows program. On Linux it needs a compatibility layer like Wine or Proton.
  • It needs the memory above, on top of what the PC itself uses.
  • Port forwarding: UDP 15637 must be open for friends to join. See Enshrouded server not showing up if it does not appear.
  • You update it after every patch, and back up the save yourself.

Our guide on hosting an Enshrouded server for free covers the steps.

Is a dedicated server worth it for Enshrouded?

It is worth it when:

  • Your group plays at different times and does not want to wait for one host.
  • You have more than 4 players and want a stable world.
  • The host's PC struggles to run the game and the world at once.

It is not worth it when you always play together on a night when the host is online anyway, and nobody plays alone.

Ways to spend less

  1. Size for your real peak. If 5 of your 8 friends actually play, 8 or 12 GB is enough.
  2. Split it. See the table above.
  3. Bring your co op world over instead of starting fresh, so nobody loses progress. Our save transfer guide shows how.
  4. Download your world and cancel between big updates if your group plays in bursts.

An Enshrouded server on GamezServers

GamezServers Enshrouded servers come in 8, 12 and 16 GB, live in about a minute after paying, with their own address so nobody forwards ports. Roles and passwords and the custom game settings from the server template are in the control panel, the server updates the game every time it starts, and one click backups let you save the world before 1.0. Split the bill with up to 10 friends, each paying their own share.
