What comes set up on a No More Room in Hell server
Eight player co-op
Scarce ammo, tiring melee and infection that turns you. It plays best with eight people who stick together.
Objective and Survival
Run nmo_ maps with tasks that end in an escape, or nms_ maps where you hold out until extraction arrives.
Source server tools
Edit server.cfg in the file manager and use the full console for changelevel, kicks and cvars without joining.
SourceMod friendly
Upload Metamod:Source and SourceMod for admin menus, map votes and plugins, the same way as any Source server.

Common problems
Set the server name, sv_password and rcon_password in nmrih/cfg/server.cfg, then restart.
Map names start with nmo_ for Objective or nms_ for Survival. The Default Map must be an exact installed map name.
After the September 2026 engine update added 64-bit binaries, make sure any SourceMod and Metamod builds you upload are current, or plugins won't load.
Custom maps go in nmrih/maps. Players who don't have them will download them on join, which is faster if you also set up a FastDL host.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your No More Room in Hell server
As a Source engine game, NMRiH servers run Metamod:Source and SourceMod plugins, plus custom maps from the Steam Workshop and community sites.
No More Room in Hell server hosting, explained
No More Room in Hell is a free Source engine zombie co-op game for up to eight players, and it is deliberately unforgiving. Ammo is scarce, melee wears you out, there is no crosshair, and a single bite can infect you and turn you into one of them. Objective maps send the group through a chain of tasks toward an escape. Survival maps have you barricade a position and hold out until extraction arrives.
The game started as a celebrated Source mod and still has a loyal crowd more than a decade after release, helped by a big engine update in September 2026 that added 64-bit support and Steam Networking. A dedicated server gives your group a fixed home with the maps and rules you prefer, and for public servers it means a known place where players come back every night.
The panel sets the starting map and keeps the server updated automatically. Everything else is in the familiar Source setup: server.cfg for the name, passwords and cvars, a mapcycle file for rotation, and the full console for changelevel, kicks and bans. Upload Metamod:Source and SourceMod with the file manager or SFTP for admin menus and plugins. A mapcycle.txt with your favourite nmo_ and nms_ maps keeps the night moving.
Source servers are light, and eight players is not a lot to track. A standard server on official maps runs well on 1 GB. Add a rotation of custom maps and a few SourceMod plugins and 2 GB is the safe pick. Only go to 4 GB for a big custom map pack with lots of plugins. You can change plans any time if your plugin list grows.

Common questions
How many players can a No More Room in Hell server hold?
Eight. The game is designed around eight player co-op.
Is the game free?
Yes. No More Room in Hell is free on Steam, so your whole group can join without buying anything.
What's the difference between Objective and Survival?
Objective maps (nmo_) have a sequence of tasks ending in an escape. Survival maps (nms_) have you hold out at a position until rescue arrives.
How do players join my server?
Open the server browser, go to Favorites, click Add a Server and enter the address. Or type connect followed by the address in the developer console.
Can I run custom maps?
Yes. Upload the .bsp files to nmrih/maps and add them to your map cycle. Players download them when they join.
Does NMRiH support SourceMod?
Yes. Upload Metamod:Source and SourceMod to the server's nmrih folder. Use builds that match the current 64-bit server.
How do I set a password?
Add sv_password followed by your password to server.cfg and restart. Leave it empty for a public server.
Is this the same as No More Room in Hell 2?
No. NMRiH 2 is a separate game. This server runs the original free No More Room in Hell.
Is GamezServers affiliated with No More Room in Hell?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated No More Room in Hell server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
