Common problems
A custom map won't load until it's both in ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems and in your map cycle. Restart after adding it.
Some mutators and custom game modes switch off perk XP. If your group cares about leveling, check a mod's Workshop page before adding it, or keep a second stock setup.
Players with an old game build can't join after a patch. Restart the server so auto update pulls the same version.
The admin password lives in the panel and written to the server config on every start.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your Killing Floor 2 server
Killing Floor 2 has an official SDK and Steam Workshop support. Servers run custom maps, mutators and full game modes, downloaded by ID from the Workshop when the server starts.
Killing Floor 2 server hosting, explained
Killing Floor 2 is Tripwire Interactive's co-op wave shooter. Up to six players pick perks, survive waves of Zeds, spend their dosh at the trader between rounds and finish with a boss. Zed Time slow motion makes the best moments look better than they were. Tripwire has since released Killing Floor 3, but KF2 still has a large library of maps and mods and a crowd that prefers its perks and feel.
Your own server means your map rotation, your difficulty and your Workshop content. Groups use them for Hell on Earth perk grinding, custom map nights and heavily modded runs. Controlled Difficulty lets you push spawn rates and Zed counts past the stock limits, and Zedternal Reborn turns a match into an endless run of upgrades and skills. Both come from the Steam Workshop and load on the server.
Our panel covers the starting map, server name, difficulty, admin password, auto updates and a WebAdmin switch. With WebAdmin on, you can change maps, manage players and edit settings from a browser. Workshop maps go in ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems in the engine config, which the server downloads at boot. Map cycles, game passwords and mutator settings are in the config files, open in the file manager or over SFTP.
KF2 runs on Unreal Engine 3 and its server is modest. A stock six player co-op server is comfortable on 3 GB. A Workshop map rotation is better on 4 GB, since custom maps take more memory to load. Big mutator setups like Controlled Difficulty with raised Zed counts, or a long list of large custom maps, are where 6 GB helps.

Common questions
How many players can join a Killing Floor 2 server?
Six in Survival co-op, which is the game's limit. Versus mode supports twelve.
Does Killing Floor 2 have crossplay?
On PC only. Steam and Epic Games Store players can play together on unmodded servers. There is no crossplay with consoles.
How do I add Workshop maps to my KF2 server?
List the Workshop item IDs under ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems in the server's engine config, then add the maps to your map cycle. The server downloads them when it starts.
How do I join my KF2 server by IP?
Enable the console in the game settings, press ~, and type open followed by the server's IP and port.
Do players earn perk XP on modded servers?
It depends on the mod. Some mutators and custom game modes turn perk XP off, so check the mod's Workshop page if leveling matters to your group.
What is WebAdmin?
A browser based admin page built into KF2. Turn it on in the panel and log in with your admin password to change maps, kick players and edit settings.
Which difficulty should we run?
Set it in the panel: Normal, Hard, Suicidal or Hell on Earth. Most groups with leveled perks settle on Suicidal or Hell on Earth.
Is Killing Floor 2 still worth hosting?
Yes for groups who still play it. Killing Floor 3 is out, but KF2 keeps a big Workshop library and a loyal co-op crowd.
Is GamezServers affiliated with Killing Floor 2?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated Killing Floor 2 server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
