  3. 3

Type connect 203.0.113.24 and press Enter.

Common problems

A setting that keeps reverting is usually set twice. Mode configs like server_checkpoint.cfg load after server.cfg and override it.

Players need the same custom map you run. Post the map links in your Discord before a map night so nobody gets stuck downloading.

This is the 2014 game. Insurgency: Sandstorm owners can't join it, and the other way around.

Turn on Enable Developer Console in the game options, or the connect command won't be available.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your Insurgency server

Insurgency servers use the standard Source toolbox: MetaMod and SourceMod plugins, community maps, and theater files that change weapons, classes and bots. Most of it comes from the AlliedModders forums and the Steam Workshop.

Insurgency server hosting, explained

Insurgency is New World Interactive's 2014 Source engine shooter, the game that came before Sandstorm, and it still has a loyal crowd. There's barely a HUD, deaths come fast, and most fights happen at close range in tight streets and compounds. PvP modes like Push, Firefight and Skirmish run up to 32 players, while co-op modes such as Checkpoint and Hunt send a squad of humans against bots.

With fewer public servers around than in its prime, a group's own server is often the easiest way to get a good game. Clans use them for scrims on a fixed map pool, and co-op groups run Checkpoint nights with bot counts and difficulty tuned to how good the squad really is. Because it's Source, you also get theater files for changing weapons and classes, and a map cycle you control.

Server owners get the whole Source toolbox: server.cfg, map cycles, mode specific configs, MetaMod and SourceMod plugins, and custom maps. One thing trips people up: mode configs like server_checkpoint.cfg load after server.cfg and override it. Our panel handles the default map and auto updates, and everything else is a text file in the file manager or over SFTP, with the live console for rcon style commands.

An older Source server is light on memory. A co-op squad against bots runs on 2 GB, and a full 32 player PvP server is comfortable on 3 GB. Co-op bots add CPU work more than RAM. Move to 4 or 6 GB only if you stack lots of SourceMod plugins and a big set of custom maps. Most groups never get there, and you can resize in the panel later.

Common questions

How many players can an Insurgency server hold?

PvP servers run up to 32 players. In co-op, a smaller squad of humans plays together and bots fill the enemy side.

How do I join an Insurgency server by IP?

Enable the developer console in the game's options, press ~, then type connect followed by the server IP and port.

Can I run SourceMod on my Insurgency server?

Yes. Upload MetaMod and SourceMod through the file manager or SFTP and restart. Plugins then go in the SourceMod plugins folder.

Can I run custom maps?

Yes. Upload the map files to insurgency/maps over SFTP and add them to your map cycle. Players need the same map, so share where to get it.

How do I set up a co-op server?

Set a co-op map and mode such as Checkpoint as the default, then tune bots in the matching mode config like server_checkpoint.cfg.

Is this the same as an Insurgency: Sandstorm server?

No. Insurgency (2014) and Insurgency: Sandstorm are separate games with separate servers, so players need the 2014 game to join this one.

How do I put a password on my server?

Add sv_password followed by your password to server.cfg and restart. Players type password and the same word in the console before connecting.

Is Insurgency still played?

Yes, by a smaller but loyal crowd, mostly on community servers. That's why many groups run their own for scrims and co-op nights.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Insurgency?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Insurgency server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
