Valheim patch 1.0.16, released September 25, 2026, fixes Deep North terrain changes reverting after an area unloads, raids that spawned "way too many enemies," three achievements and a crash in the online Player List (Steam). It is the latest of five fix patches since Valheim 1.0 launched on September 9.
What does Valheim patch 1.0.16 fix?
The main fixes from Iron Gate's notes:
- Terrain reverting in the Deep North. "Fixed a bug that caused terrain modifications to revert in Deep North after unloading the area in some cases." Iron Gate notes you may need to fix leftover seams yourself "by pickaxing, using the hoe, or walking over snow."
- Too many enemies. "Fixed a bug that could cause way too many enemies to spawn, especially during raids."
- Achievements. Child of Odin and Comfort is King now unlock correctly, and the unobtainable Blue Mushroom was removed from The Gourmet.
- Player List crash. "Fixed an error / potential crash in the online session Player List."
- Snowball crashes. Rolling snowballs far from the player no longer cause terrain seams or crashes.
- Boss fight spawns. Spawns during the Deep North boss fight no longer appear outside the arena.
- Smaller changes. Placeable rocks no longer take rain damage, tessellation is off in the "low" preset, and item variants now show on item and armour stands.

Which Valheim 1.0 patches matter most for servers?
Several fixes in 1.0.12 to 1.0.15 touch multiplayer directly. If you run a dedicated server, these are the ones to know:
Players could not join remote servers (1.0.14)
"Disabled biomedata caching, fixing a bug where the cache could end up in an invalid state, making it impossible to join remote servers." If a player could not join any server after launch while others could, this was a likely cause. Updating the game fixes it.
Characters not saving on someone else's server (1.0.14)
"Fixed a bug where characters didn't save correctly when manually pressing Save while playing on a server hosted by someone else."
Terrain causing lag and portal problems (1.0.14 and 1.0.15)
1.0.14 fixed terrain changes by players or monsters that "could lead to performance and portal issues in multiplayer." 1.0.15 then fixed "terrain duplications which resulted in a loss of performance." If your server felt slow in the first week, update and walk over or dig along any seams to clean them up. For lag that remains, see our Valheim server lag fix.
Ban lists and whitelists only accepting new IDs (1.0.12)
The ban list and whitelist only worked with new style IDs such as V_123456789 and ignored older ones like Steam_123456789. 1.0.12 made both work again. Details on the list files are in our Valheim admin commands.
Items on stands losing levels (1.0.12 and 1.0.15)
Items on item stands and armour stands could lose their level and variant when a world converted to the 1.0 save format. Iron Gate said in 1.0.15 that "this data is lost in the conversion," fixed it for worlds converted from 1.0.12 on, and offered two workarounds: revert to the backup made on first load, or copy the backup, take the items from it on your character and bring them back to your main world.
Do all platforms get Valheim patches at the same time?
No, but crossplay keeps working. For 1.0.14, 1.0.15 and 1.0.16, Iron Gate said the patch "will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms. Despite this, however, crossplay will still remain functional." The 1.0.12 fixes shipped on Steam first and were described as "fully crossplay compatible." So a Steam updated server should keep accepting console players during the rollout. If someone does get an incompatible version message, our Valheim incompatible version fix covers it.
What is next for Valheim after 1.0?
In its September 30 Word from the Devs, Iron Gate said "there are more content updates coming," without saying what, and that it will keep shipping bug and balance patches. The monthly dev posts are ending, with news shared "when we have news." Valheim is also nominated in three Golden Joystick categories, with voting open until October 23.
What this means for your server
- Restart to get 1.0.16. The dedicated server is app ID
896660in SteamCMD. Update it and restart. - Have players update too. Most of these fixes are client side, especially the remote join bug.
- Clean up terrain seams where the fixes mention it.
- Keep backups. The stand item problem shows why the first load backup matters.
Our Valheim servers update Valheim on every restart, so a restart is all it takes. More on the launch itself in our Valheim 1.0 dedicated server update.
FAQ
What is the latest Valheim patch?
Patch 1.0.16, released September 25, 2026. It fixes Deep North terrain reverting, raids spawning too many enemies and a Player List crash.
Why could I not join a Valheim server after 1.0?
A biome data cache could get into a bad state and block joining remote servers. Patch 1.0.14 disabled that cache, so update your game.
Does Valheim 1.0.16 break crossplay?
No. Iron Gate said the patch takes a few days to reach every platform but crossplay stays functional during the rollout.
How do I fix terrain seams in the Deep North?
Dig or level along the seam with a pickaxe or hoe, or walk over the snow there. Since 1.0.15 the fix persists after the area reloads.
Will Valheim get more content after 1.0?
Yes. Iron Gate confirmed more content updates are coming but has not said what they are or when.
