A Satisfactory dedicated server needs at least 8 GB of RAM, a 64 bit x86 CPU with strong single core speed (i5-3570 or Ryzen 5 3600 and up), about 8 to 13 GB of disk, and Windows or Linux. It uses port 7777 over UDP and TCP plus TCP 8888. ARM devices are not supported.

What are the Satisfactory dedicated server requirements?

These are the official minimums from the Satisfactory wiki's dedicated server page, which Coffee Stain maintains with the community:

Component Requirement
RAM 8 GB. 16 GB "may be recommended for larger saves or to host more than 4 players".
CPU Intel i5-3570 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or better. Uses multiple cores but "heavily favors" single core speed.
Disk About 12.4 GB on Windows, about 8 GB total on Linux including the OS.
Operating system Windows 10, 11, Server 2016, 2019 or 2022, or Linux such as Debian or Ubuntu.
Architecture 64 bit x86 only. No 32 bit and no ARM.
Install SteamCMD, app ID 1690800, anonymous login.
Ports 7777 UDP and TCP, 8888 TCP.

No graphics card is needed. The server runs without a display, and you manage it from the Server Manager inside the game.

How much RAM does a Satisfactory server need?

8 GB is enough for a new or mid game save with up to 4 players. Memory grows with the size of the factory, not just the player count, because the server simulates every machine, belt, train and drone in the world. A practical guide:

Save and group RAM
New or mid game, up to 4 players 8 GB
Late game, 4 to 8 players 12 GB
Megabase, heavy mods, or 8 players and up 16 GB

If you host on your own PC, remember that is RAM free for the server on top of Windows, your browser and the game itself if you play on the same machine. Running the game client and the server on one 16 GB PC is tight once the factory is big. Our article on how many players can play Satisfactory goes deeper on player counts.

What CPU is best for a Satisfactory server?

Pick the fastest single core you can get. The simulation spreads over a few threads, but the main game thread decides how smooth the factory feels, so a modern CPU with high clock speed beats an older server chip with many slow cores. Signs the CPU is the limit: rubber banding when the whole team is online and freezes at every autosave on a large save. See the Satisfactory server lag fix for how to tell CPU and RAM problems apart.

What ports does a Satisfactory server use?

Since Update 1.1, a Satisfactory server needs two ports:

Port Protocol Used for Launch option
7777 UDP and TCP Game traffic over UDP, the server API over TCP -Port=
8888 TCP Reliable messaging -ReliablePort=

Coffee Stain's 1.1 notes explain that by default the server starts at 8888 and tries up to 512 ports until it finds a free one, and it tells clients which port it picked during the handshake. If you run one server, forward 8888 TCP. If you run several on one machine, forward a range starting at 8888, or set -ReliablePort= for each server. If your router remaps external ports, set -ExternalReliablePort= too, or players will fail to connect.

Older guides that only mention 7777, or the pre 1.0 ports 15000 and 15777, are out of date. A missing 8888 rule is one of the most common reasons players can see a server in Server Manager but cannot join it. The Satisfactory can't connect guide covers the error messages.

Can you run a Satisfactory server on Linux?

Yes. Linux is fully supported and usually the better choice for a dedicated box, since it leaves more RAM for the game. Install with SteamCMD:

steamcmd +force_install_dir ~/SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit

Then start it with ./FactoryServer.sh. On Windows the equivalent is FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended. Saves live in these folders:

OS Save folder
Windows %LocalAppData%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server
Linux ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server

Server settings such as the server name and passwords are stored in ServerSettings.<port>.sav in the SaveGames folder, and the player limit is set with -ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8 on the launch line.

Can a Raspberry Pi or ARM VPS run a Satisfactory server?

No. The official documentation states there is no 32 bit or ARM support, so a Raspberry Pi, an Apple Silicon Mac running Linux natively, or an ARM cloud instance will not run the server. Projects that try emulation exist, but they run far too slowly for a real factory. You need a 64 bit x86 machine.

Can you run the server and play on the same PC?

Yes, and it is a common way to start. The PC needs enough RAM for both: the game client alone wants 8 GB minimum and 16 GB recommended. With 16 GB total you can run a small early game save. With 32 GB you have room for a late game factory. The catch is that the world is only online while your PC is on. Our plans are built around the RAM table above: Starter with 8 GB and 4 players at 19.99 USD a month, Standard with 12 GB and 8 players at 29.99 USD, and Pro with 16 GB and 12 players at 39.99 USD. Ports 7777 and the reliable messaging port are opened for you, and the server is claimed with your admin password on first start. Upgrade any time and keep your save. New customers get 50% off the first month. See Satisfactory server hosting or the quick start guide.

FAQ

Is 8 GB of RAM enough for a Satisfactory server?

Yes for a new or mid game save with up to 4 players. Late game factories and bigger groups want 12 to 16 GB.

Does a Satisfactory server need a graphics card?

No. The dedicated server runs without graphics, so any GPU, or none, is fine.

Which ports do I forward for Satisfactory?

Forward 7777 over both UDP and TCP, and 8888 over TCP. If you change the ports with -Port= or -ReliablePort=, forward those numbers instead.

Can I run a Satisfactory server on a Raspberry Pi?

No. The server only runs on 64 bit x86 Windows or Linux, and ARM is not supported.

Is the Satisfactory dedicated server free?

Yes. The server software is a free download through SteamCMD with app ID 1690800, and you do not need to own a second copy of the game.

Does the server need to be on all the time?

Only if you want friends to play without you. By default the server pauses when nobody is online, so it uses little CPU while empty.
