How to Make a Create Mod Server (NeoForge, Forge or Fabric)

Make a Create mod server: Create 6 on NeoForge 1.21.1, Forge or Fabric 1.20.1, matching addons, RAM per group, and settings that keep contraptions smooth.

To make a Create mod server, run NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1 and put Create 6.0.10 in mods/, or run Forge or Fabric on 1.20.1 with that version's Create 6.0.8 build. Add only addons built for Create 6, give the server 6 to 8 GB of RAM, and have every player install the same Create and addon versions. Server limits like maxBlocksMoved live in create-server.toml, which you can lower if contraptions and trains start to lag.

What you are working with

Minecraft Loader Create file (October 2026) Notes
1.21.1 NeoForge Create 6.0.10 The main version. Newest features and addons
1.20.1 Forge (or NeoForge 1.20.1) Create 6.0.8 Huge addon library, many modpacks
1.20.1 Fabric Create Fabric 6.0.8.1, plus Fabric API A separate port, published as its own project
26.x Any None yet Create has no 26.x release, so do not run "latest"

Versions are from Create on Modrinth. Create is a content mod: it goes on the server and every player's game. The rendering library Flywheel is bundled, so you do not install it separately.

A Minecraft world on a Create mod server, where players build machines and trains together

How much RAM does a Create server need?

Group Setup RAM
2 to 5 friends Create plus a few addons 6 GB
5 to 10 players Create, 10 to 20 addons, trains 8 GB
10+ players or a Create modpack Big addon list, large factories 12 GB

Memory is half of it. Create's machines tick every game tick, so a fast CPU matters as much as RAM once factories get large. See how much RAM a Minecraft server needs for other modded sizes.

Before you start

  • Set the Minecraft version first. A server on the newest Minecraft cannot load Create at all. Pick 1.21.1 or 1.20.1.
  • Choose addons before the world exists. Many add ores or structures that only generate in new chunks.
  • Back up before every Create or addon update.

Step 1: Run the loader

Install NeoForge 21.1.x for 1.21.1, or Forge 47.4.x or Fabric for 1.20.1, and start once so mods/ and config/ appear. Our guides on NeoForge mods and Forge mods cover the loader itself.

Step 2: Add Create and its addons

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Upload the Create jar for your loader and Minecraft version to mods/. On Fabric, add Fabric API too.
  3. Add addons, each with its own dependencies. Popular ones include Create Crafts & Additions and Create Enchantment Industry on both versions, and Create: Steam 'n' Rails on 1.20.1 only. Check each addon page lists your exact Create version.
  4. Start and watch the log until the server is done loading.

Step 3: Give players the same mods

Players need the same loader, Create version and every addon. The simplest way is a modpack: build one in CurseForge, Prism or the Modrinth App, share it, and install the same jars on the server. Client only extras like Sodium or Iris shaders stay off the server.

The gotcha: every addon is tied to a Create version

Create's addons hook deep into its code, so they declare exactly which Create versions they work with. When Create 6.0 replaced 0.5.1, almost every addon broke until its author updated it. A server with an old addon stops on start with a dependency error along these lines (reported many times on Create's issue tracker):

Mod createaddition requires create [0.5.1.e,0.5.2)
Currently, create is 6.0.4

It reads backwards to most people: the server is fine, Create is fine, the addon wants an older Create. The fix is to update the addon to a build for Create 6, or remove it. Two rules prevent this:

  1. Update Create and addons together. Check every addon has a release for the new Create version before you update Create itself.
  2. Never mix 0.5.1 era addons with Create 6. If an addon's newest file is from before March 2025, it was made for 0.5.1.

Removing an addon from a running world is the expensive mistake: its blocks vanish from contraptions and trains, which can break whole machines. Back up first.

How do I stop Create contraptions from lagging?

Create's server limits live in create-server.toml. On NeoForge 1.21.1 it is in config/, and on Forge 1.20.1 it is in world/serverconfig/. A copy inside world/serverconfig/ always overrides config/. Edit it with the server stopped:

Setting Default What to do on a busy server
maxBlocksMoved 2048 Lower it (for example 1024) so huge moving builds are not possible
maxRotationSpeed 256 Leave it, lower only if machines run wild
maxBeltLength 20 Leave it
maxChassisRange 16 Lower to limit giant chassis contraptions
disableStress false Keep false, or machines become free power

Beyond settings, the heavy parts are many moving contraptions at once, long train networks crossing unloaded areas, and item spam on belts and in funnels. Pregenerating the world with Chunky also helps, because exploration on trains forces chunks to generate.

Common problems

  • "Mod X requires create [0.5.1...]": an addon made for old Create. Update or remove it.
  • Create will not load at all: the server runs another Minecraft version, or a Fabric jar is on NeoForge (or the reverse).
  • Players kicked with a mod mismatch: their Create or addon versions differ. Share the modpack.
  • A config change does nothing: edit the copy in world/serverconfig/, or delete it so config/ applies.
  • TPS drops near one base: a big contraption or belt farm. Check with a profiler mod like Spark and lower maxBlocksMoved.

Create on GamezServers

On a Minecraft server from GamezServers, choose NeoForge (or Forge or Fabric) in Settings, set the Minecraft version to 1.21.1 or 1.20.1, and press Update game. Upload Create and its addons with the file manager or SFTP, and press Backup before every update. The Pro plan's 8 GB suits most Create groups, and you can upgrade later without losing the world.

FAQ

Is Create on Fabric or NeoForge?

Create is made for NeoForge on 1.21.1 and Forge on 1.20.1. Fabric has a separate port, Create Fabric, for 1.20.1.

Does Create work on Minecraft 26.x?

Not as of October 2026. Run the server on 1.21.1 or 1.20.1.

Do players need Create installed to join?

Yes. Every player needs the same Create version and the same addons as the server.

Why does my Create server crash after updating?

Usually an addon that does not support the new Create version. Update the addon or remove it, from a backup.
