Conan Exiles Server Not Showing or Friends Can't Connect

Fix a Conan Exiles server missing from the browser or rejecting players: Enhanced vs Legacy builds, stale Engine.ini lines, mod order and ports.

If friends cannot find or join your Conan Exiles server, first check that the server build matches their game: since May 2026 Steam players are on Conan Exiles Enhanced, while Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store players are on Legacy, and the two never connect to each other. Next, delete the old bUseBuildIdOverride and BuildIdOverride lines from the server's Engine.ini, make sure every player has the same mods in the same order, and use Direct Connect with the IP and port instead of waiting for the server to appear in the browser.

Most "server not showing" and "can't connect" reports since the Enhanced launch come down to one of the problems below. They are listed in the order worth checking.

1. The client and server builds do not match

Enhanced moved Conan Exiles to Unreal Engine 5. It is a different build from Legacy, and a client of one cannot see or join a server of the other, no matter what address you type.

Player's game Server must run
Steam, default branch Enhanced
Steam, Legacy beta branch Legacy
Epic Games Store Legacy
Microsoft Store / Game Pass on PC Legacy
PlayStation or Xbox console Cannot join PC servers

A mixed group has to pick one. Usually the Steam players opt into the Legacy branch (in Steam: right click Conan Exiles, Properties > Betas), because Epic and Microsoft Store players have no way to move to Enhanced.

On the server side, a SteamCMD install of app 443030 gets Enhanced by default. Legacy is installed from its beta branch.

2. Stale Engine.ini lines from the UE4 days

This one catches servers that were upgraded from Legacy to Enhanced in place. Old Legacy configs often carry a build override in Engine.ini (in ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ or WindowsServer/):

[OnlineSubsystem]
bUseBuildIdOverride=True
BuildIdOverride=460304166

These lines make the server report an old build number. Players on the current client then get rejected as a version mismatch, even though both sides are fully updated. Stop the server, delete both lines, save and start again. The Enhanced server troubleshooting notes call this out as the main cause of clients being unable to connect.

3. Mods differ, or are in a different order

Conan checks the server's modlist.txt against each player's mods. They must have the same mods, the same versions and the same load order.

  • When a Workshop mod updates, players whose Steam has not pulled the update yet get rejected. Restarting Steam forces it to sync.
  • Many UE4 mods have not been rebuilt for Enhanced. A mod that loads on a Legacy server may fail on Enhanced, and Legacy and Enhanced versions of the same mod are sometimes separate Workshop items with similar names. Check the item ID, not just the title.
  • Do not rename mod .pak files on an Enhanced server. Renamed paks fail to load, which then breaks the match with players.

Our Conan Exiles mods guide covers modlist.txt and load order step by step.

4. Server or client is one patch behind

After a Funcom patch, the client updates through Steam right away, while a dedicated server only updates when it is updated with SteamCMD or restarted with an update step. Until then nobody on the new client can join. Run the update and restart after every patch. If a player is on an older version, ask them to let Steam finish updating and, if needed, verify the game files.

5. The ports are not open (home servers)

Port Protocol Use
7777 UDP Game traffic
7778 UDP Raw UDP, always the game port plus one
27015 UDP Steam query, used by the server browser
25575 TCP RCON, only if you use it

A closed query port is the classic cause of a server that players can Direct Connect to but cannot find in the list. A closed game port means nobody gets in at all. Forward the ports to the server's local IP and allow the server through the firewall; see our port forwarding guide. If forwarding changes nothing, your ISP may be using carrier grade NAT, which blocks incoming connections entirely: how to tell if you are behind CGNAT.

Testing from inside your own network can mislead you. Many routers do not loop connections to your own public IP back in, so try from a phone hotspot or ask a friend.

6. The server is registered with the wrong IP

On a machine with more than one network address, the server can advertise the wrong one. If you start it with -MULTIHOME=<ip>, also add -MULTIHOMEHTTP=<ip> with the same address, so the server's web requests (which the server list relies on) come from the same IP as the game server. Without it, the server can run fine but never appear in the list.

7. It is just the browser

Even a healthy server can take several minutes to show up after a restart, and the in game browser filters (map, PvE or PvP, mods, password) hide more than people expect. Before digging deeper:

  1. In Play Online, clear the filters and search the exact name.
  2. If nothing shows, click Direct Connect and enter ip:port with the game port.
  3. Enter the server password if there is one.

If Direct Connect works, the server is fine and the problem is listing (ports 27015 or the IP issue above). If Direct Connect fails too, go back to builds, mods and versions.

Other things that look like connection problems

  • Server full. The cap is MaxPlayers under [/Script/Engine.GameSession] in Game.ini.
  • Wrong password. Players see a rejection rather than a timeout.
  • BattlEye. If the server has BattlEye enabled, players must launch the game with BattlEye on. Mismatches here get players kicked shortly after joining.

How a hosted server changes this list

A GamezServers Conan Exiles server takes care of points 5 and 6: the server has its own address with ports already open and DDoS protection on, so there is no router or CGNAT in the way. You pick Enhanced or Standard (Legacy) as the server type in the panel and can switch later, the server checks for updates when it starts so a restart after a patch brings it current, and the name and password are panel settings. Engine.ini, modlist.txt and ServerSettings.ini are in the file manager for the build override and mod fixes, and a one click backup before switching builds keeps your world safe. Build, mod and version matching on the players' side applies to every Conan server, ours included.

FAQ

Why can my Epic Games friend not join my Conan Exiles server?

Epic players are on the Legacy build. Your server has to run Legacy, and your Steam players have to switch to the Legacy beta branch to join it.

Why is my Conan Exiles server not in the server list but Direct Connect works?

The query port (27015 UDP by default) is not reachable, the server advertised the wrong IP, or it simply has not been listed yet after a restart. Check port forwarding and the -MULTIHOMEHTTP option.

What does BuildIdOverride do in Engine.ini?

It forces the server to report a fixed build number. Left over from Legacy setups, it makes an Enhanced server look outdated, so clients are rejected. Delete the line and bUseBuildIdOverride.

Can PlayStation or Xbox players join a PC Conan Exiles server?

No. Console versions of Conan Exiles only connect to console servers.
