Arma Reforger admin commands are typed in the in game chat with a # in front. Log in with #login yourAdminPassword (the passwordAdmin from the server's config.json), list players and their IDs with #players, then use #kick <playerId>, #ban create <playerId> <seconds> <reason>, #restart or #shutdown. Players listed in the admins array of config.json can type #login with no password at all.

Who counts as an admin

Bohemia's documentation lists three kinds of server administrator in Reforger:

  • The player hosting a server from the game (PC only).
  • A logged in admin, who typed #login with the admin password, or who is on the server's admins list.
  • A voted in admin, chosen by players through the vote system.

A voted admin has fewer rights than a logged in one. They cannot restart, shut down, kick or ban through commands.

Setting the admin password

The password lives in config.json under game:

{
  "game": {
    "name": "Everon Night Ops",
    "password": "",
    "passwordAdmin": "a-long-secret",
    "admins": [
      "76561198000000000"
    ]
  }
}
  • passwordAdmin is what #login <password> checks.
  • admins is a list of player identities (Bohemia identity IDs, or Steam IDs for Steam players) that are treated as admins. People on the list can type plain #login without a password.

Restart the server after changing either. If you have not set up the server itself, see how to host an Arma Reforger server.

The command list

Command Logged admin Voted admin Player What it does
#login [password] Yes Log in as admin
#logout Yes Yes Drop admin rights
#roles Yes Yes Yes Show the roles you have
#id Yes Yes Yes Show your own player ID
#players Yes Yes Yes List players and their player IDs
#restart Yes Restart the current scenario
#shutdown Yes Shut the server down
#kick <playerId> Yes Kick a player
#ban create ... Yes Ban a player
#ban remove <identityId> Yes Lift a ban
#ban list [page] Yes List bans

Logging in and out

#login a-long-secret
#roles
#logout

Run #roles after logging in to confirm it worked. Log out when you are done so a stray keystroke does not kick someone.

Finding player IDs

Most commands need a playerId, the number the server gives each connected player. Get it with:

#players

It lists everyone in the session with their playerId. #id shows only your own.

There is also an identityId, the player's persistent identity, which stays the same across sessions. Bans can use either, and bans of players who are offline must use the identity.

Kicking

#kick 123456789

A kick removes the player, who can rejoin straight away. It is the right tool for an AFK player blocking a slot or a first warning.

Banning

Bans only work on a dedicated server, not a game hosted from the client.

#ban create 123456789 3600
#ban create 123456789 0
#ban create 123456789 86400 teamkilling
Part Meaning
123456789 playerId (player must be online), identityId, or on newer versions the player's name
3600 Duration in seconds. 0 means forever
teamkilling Optional reason

To see and lift bans:

#ban list
#ban list 2
#ban remove <identityId>

#ban list shows ten bans per page in game. The format is BanID ; Player UID ; Duration.

Restarting the mission versus the server

#restart restarts the scenario. Everyone stays connected and the mission starts fresh, which is the clean way to reset a stuck Conflict round or a Game Master session that got out of hand.

#shutdown stops the server and disconnects everyone. On a hosted server, the control panel starts it again; at home, you need a script or a person to bring it back.

Game Master and admin rights

In Game Master scenarios, the Game Master role (Zeus) is separate from server admin. A logged in admin can manage the server with the commands above, while Game Master controls the scenario itself. Many communities give both to the same trusted people, but they are not the same thing.

Admin habits for a Reforger community

  • Use the admins list for regular staff instead of sharing passwordAdmin in Discord. Removing someone is then one line in config.json.
  • Ban with a reason and a duration. A one day ban for teamkilling with a written reason is easier to defend than a permanent ban with none.
  • Keep a ban log in your Discord, since #ban list only shows IDs and durations.
  • Back up config.json before editing it. One missing comma and the server will not start.

Admin on a hosted Reforger server

On a GamezServers Arma Reforger server, the Admin Password is a setting in the control panel and is written into config.json on every start, so #login works from day one. The admins list, mods and crossplay live in config.json, which you edit in the file manager. The live console shows players joining with their IDs, which helps when you need a playerId for someone who already left. For a busier modded server, see installing mods on an Arma Reforger server.
