Common problems
New servers do not show in the in-game list until Northwood verifies them. Until then, use Direct Connect with 203.0.113.24.
Plugins must match the game version. After a big SCP:SL update, wait for EXILED and your plugins to update before restarting, or roll back with a backup.
Config files live per port, in a folder named after the server's port. Edit config_gameplay.txt in that folder, not a copy elsewhere.
Raised max players and rounds feel laggy? Each extra player adds load. Move up a plan rather than trimming the round.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your SCP: Secret Laboratory server
Server plugins load through LabAPI, which ships with the game, or through EXILED, the big community framework built on top of it. Players need nothing extra; it all runs on the server.
SCP: Secret Laboratory server hosting, explained
SCP: Secret Laboratory is a free multiplayer game from Northwood Studios set in a facility in the middle of a containment breach. Each round splits players into sides: Class-D personnel and scientists trying to escape, Mobile Task Force units locking things down, Chaos Insurgency raiders, and the SCPs hunting everyone. Proximity voice chat turns every round into negotiation, betrayal and panic, which is why communities form around servers they like.
Owning the server is how you set the tone. You decide player count, round rules, friendly fire, who gets admin and which plugins run. Some servers are serious and strict on rules, others run nightly event rounds with custom roles and silly modes. Admin ranks and permissions live in config_remoteadmin.txt, and gameplay settings in config_gameplay.txt, both in the file manager.
Our panel has two server types. Standard runs the plain dedicated server, which already supports LabAPI plugins. EXILED installs the popular community framework so you can drop in EXILED plugins. You can also choose a game branch with its password when Northwood opens a public beta, and keep auto updates on. To appear in the public list, Northwood has to verify your server against their rules.
Memory scales with player count and plugins. A vanilla server for around 20 players runs on 4 GB. Event servers with EXILED and a stack of plugins, or player counts in the 30s, should use 6 GB. Big community servers with lots of custom content and high caps can move to 8 GB. Plugins that log a lot or track stats add to that, so leave headroom on event nights when the server fills up.

Common questions
How many players can an SCP:SL server hold?
The default config sets 20. Raise max_players in config_gameplay.txt; there is no hard cap, but more players means more RAM and CPU.
How do I get my server on the public server list?
Set a contact email in config_gameplay.txt, follow Northwood's verified server rules and run the verify command in the console. Until it is verified, players join with Direct Connect.
What is EXILED?
EXILED is a community plugin framework for SCP:SL servers, maintained by the ExMod Team. Switch the server type to EXILED in our panel, then upload plugin .dll files through the file manager.
Do players need to install the plugins?
No. SCP:SL plugins run only on the server. Players join with the normal game client.
How do I make myself admin?
Add your SteamID64 to a rank in config_remoteadmin.txt and restart. Open the Remote Admin panel in game with the M key.
Do players have to buy SCP: Secret Laboratory?
No. It is free to play on Steam, so anyone in your group can join without paying for the game.
What happens to plugins when the game updates?
Big updates often break plugins until their authors catch up. Take a backup before updating and roll back if your plugins are not ready.
How much RAM does an SCP:SL server need?
4 GB covers a vanilla 20 player server. Plugins and higher caps push that to 6 or 8 GB.
Is GamezServers affiliated with SCP: Secret Laboratory?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated SCP: Secret Laboratory server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
