Common problems

Bots won't spawn on a custom map? Set fof_sv_bot_slotpct 1 in the server config to give bots slots on maps that don't set them up.

Players get missing textures on custom maps? Custom content has to reach the players. Use a .res file per map or SourceMod's downloads list, ideally with a fast sv_downloadurl.

Server list shows the wrong version? Leave Auto Update on and restart after a game update so the server matches the client.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Fistful of Frags server hosting, explained

Fistful of Frags is a free Wild West shooter on the Source engine. Revolvers, rifles, shotguns, bows and dynamite reload slowly but hit hard, so fights reward aim and timing over spraying, and you can dual wield or fight with your fists. It started as a Half-Life 2 mod and has been free on Steam since 2014, and it still gets map and balance updates, including some in 2026.

The game has eight official modes. Shootout is free for all, with team variants for up to four teams. Elimination modes remove players for the round, Teamplay has zone capture and push the cart maps, Break Bad is its own objective mode, Versus is one on one duels matched by skill, and Course rounds out the list. Your own server lets you build a rotation around the modes your group actually plays.

The panel sets the default map and auto update, and the full config and maps folder are open in the file manager and SFTP. Metamod:Source and SourceMod work like on any Source game, for admin menus, map votes and stats. Bots keep a small server lively, and custom maps need a download setup so players get them when they join.

Like most Source games, Fistful of Frags is light on memory. A small server or a private duel room runs on 2 GB, and a public server with bots and a custom map list fits 4 GB. Go to 6 GB for a busy community server with a large plugin stack. Bots cost a little CPU each, so add them to fill gaps rather than whole teams.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?
