Unturned server commands work in three places: the Commands.dat file (startup settings like Map, MaxPlayers, Owner and PvE), the server console (no prefix), and in game chat for admins with a / or @ prefix. Parameters are separated by /, for example /ban Nelson/griefing/86400. Make yourself admin with Owner <SteamID64> in Commands.dat, then restart. Item and vehicle spawning needs Cheats turned on.
How do Unturned server commands work?
According to Smartly Dressed Games' server hosting docs, there are two kinds of commands:
- Config commands go in
Servers/<ServerID>/Server/Commands.dat, one per line, and are read when the server starts. Examples:Map,Password,Port,Owner,PvE. - Runtime commands work while the server is running: typed into the server console, or into chat by an admin with
/or@in front. Examples:Save,Shutdown,Give,Kick.
A few commands work in both places. Commands are not case sensitive, and multiple parameters are separated by a forward slash, not spaces. Player arguments accept a SteamID64 or part of a player's name.
How do I make myself admin on an Unturned server?
- Find your SteamID64, the 17 digit number starting with
7656119. - Open
Servers/<ServerID>/Server/Commands.datand add:
Owner 76561198000000001
- Restart the server.
The owner is always an admin. To give other players admin, use the console or chat while the server runs:
admin 76561198000000002
unadmin removes it again, and admins lists everyone with admin rights.
What goes in Commands.dat?

| Quest | quest <Player>/<QuestID> |

Example: /give YourName/363/2 gives two of item 363. Item and vehicle IDs differ between maps and mods, so check the map's item list.
What about Rocket plugin commands?
Rocket (RocketMod) adds its own chat commands, and plugins add more. Common built in ones include /p for permissions, /tp and /tphere for teleporting, /i for items, /v for vehicles, /heal, /god, /vanish and /more, depending on your Rocket version. Who can use them is controlled by groups in Rocket/Permissions.config.xml, not by Unturned's admin list, so a player can be a Rocket admin without being an Unturned admin and the other way round. Plugin commands for kits, homes or shops come from the plugins you install in Rocket/Plugins.
FAQ
How do I make myself admin on my Unturned server?
Add Owner followed by your SteamID64 to Commands.dat in Servers/<ServerID>/Server/ and restart. You can then admin others with the admin command.
How do I use commands in Unturned chat?
Type them with a / or @ prefix while you are an admin, and separate parameters with /, for example /kick Nelson/AFK.
How do I ban someone on an Unturned server?
Use ban followed by the player, a reason and a duration in seconds, separated by slashes. Without a duration the ban lasts 365 days.
Why does /give not work on my Unturned server?
Cheats is not in Commands.dat, or you are not an admin. Add Cheats on its own line, restart, and check you are the owner or an admin.
How do I change the map on an Unturned server?
Set Map in Commands.dat to the map's exact name, for example Map Washington, and restart. Workshop maps must be downloaded through WorkshopDownloadConfig.json first.
Commands on a hosted Unturned server
On a GamezServers Unturned server, Commands.dat is in the file manager, the live console takes every runtime command above, and Rocket is already set up for plugins. We make the Steam server token for you, so there is no GSLT line to fill in. New to running one? See how to host an Unturned server for maps, Workshop content and plugins.
