To reset one player on a Palworld dedicated server, stop the server, open Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world ID>/Players/, and move that player's .sav file out of the folder. When they join again, they get character creation and start at level 1, while the world, other players and every base stay as they were. The file is named after the player's UID, which you can read from the ShowPlayers command while they are online.
When a single player reset is the right tool
- A player's character is stuck under the map or in a load loop.
- Someone wants to restart the story while the group keeps going.
- A character was cheated or duped and needs removing.
- A player joined on the wrong account and wants the character gone.
If the whole server should start over, make a new world instead. If only the settings need changing, see changing Palworld settings on an existing world.
What a player file holds
Stored in the player's .sav |
Stored in the world (Level.sav) |
|---|---|
| Level, stats, technology points and unlocked tech | Bases and every structure |
| Inventory and equipped gear | Pals working at bases |
| Party Pals and Palbox contents tied to the player | Guilds and their members |
| Position and respawn point | Items in chests |
Removing the player file resets the first column. The world keeps the second, so buildings and base Pals the player made stay in place, owned by their guild.

Step 1: Find the player's UID
With the player online, run this over RCON or in the server console:
ShowPlayers
The output lists name, playeruid, steamid for everyone connected. Note the playeruid for your player.
If the player cannot get online (for example their character crashes them on join), compare file dates in the Players folder with when they last played, or ask them to join once and run ShowPlayers before they crash.
Step 2: Match the UID to the file
Player files are named with a 32 character hexadecimal ID, like:
0012D687000000000000000000000000.sav
The first 8 characters are the player UID written in hexadecimal, and the rest are zeros. To turn the decimal playeruid from ShowPlayers into the file name:
- Convert the number to hexadecimal. Windows Calculator in Programmer mode does it: type the number in DEC and read HEX.
- Pad it to 8 characters with leading zeros.
- Add 24 zeros after it.
For example, UID 1234567 is 12D687 in hex, padded to 0012D687, so the file is 0012D687000000000000000000000000.sav. Look for that name in the Players folder. It is case insensitive.
On servers with crossplay, players from other platforms follow the same pattern but their UID comes from their platform account. Always confirm with ShowPlayers instead of guessing.
Step 3: Save, stop and back up
Save the world and stop the server cleanly so nothing is written while you work:
Save
Shutdown 10 Restarting for maintenance
Then copy the whole world folder somewhere safe. If the wrong file goes, you put it back.
Step 4: Remove the player file
Move <UID>.sav out of the Players folder. Do not just rename it inside the folder, as the server may still read it. Moving it to your backup is the cleanest option.
Start the server. When the player joins, they see character creation.
What happens to their stuff
- Base structures stay, owned by their guild.
- Pals at the base keep working for the guild.
- Their guild membership may still show the old character until the guild list refreshes. If the player was the only member of their guild, that guild and its base can linger as an abandoned guild in the world.
- Their inventory and party Pals are gone with the file. Ask them to drop important items in a chest first if the reset is planned.
If the player was guild leader in a shared guild, transfer leadership to someone else before the reset, from the guild menu in game.
The other way: a fresh character without touching files
There is no in game button for it. Each account gets one character per world, and dying never resets levels or tech, whatever the death penalty. Joining from a different account does create a new character, but most players only have one. For a real reset, the file method is the one to use.
Common problems
- The player loads their old character anyway. The server was running when you moved the file, or you edited a different world folder. Check
DedicatedServerNameinGameUserSettings.inimatches the folder you changed. - Can't find the file. The UID conversion went wrong. Sort the
Playersfolder by date modified and check files changed around when the player was last online. - Server will not start afterwards. You moved more than one file, or something else in the world folder. Restore the backup and try again with only the one
.sav.
If the world itself fails to load after a patch, that is a different problem, covered in Palworld save not loading after an update.
On a hosted server
On a GamezServers Palworld server the steps are the same with less hassle: the console runs ShowPlayers and Save, one click backups cover the world folder, and the file manager or SFTP gets you to the Players folder directly. The panel stop button saves before shutting down. To host for your group, see the Palworld game page.

FAQ
Can I reset one Palworld player without wiping the server?
Yes. Stop the server and move that player's .sav out of the world's Players folder. Everyone else and every base stays.
How do I find which Palworld save file belongs to which player?
Run ShowPlayers, convert the player's playeruid to hexadecimal, pad it to 8 characters and add 24 zeros. That is the file name.
Does resetting a player delete their base?
No. Bases and base Pals belong to the guild and stay in the world.
Will a reset player keep their guild?
Their old character's membership may linger. Have the guild invite the new character, and transfer leadership before resetting a guild leader.
