How to Make a Modded Rust Server with 2x, 3x or 5x Gather Rates
Set 2x, 3x or 5x gather rates on a Rust server with Gather Manager on Oxide or Carbon: every gather.rate type, stack sizes, and the Modded tab rules.

To make a Rust server with higher gather rates, run it on Oxide or Carbon, upload GatherManager.cs into oxide/plugins/ (or carbon/plugins/), then set every source in the server console: gather.rate dispenser * 2, gather.rate pickup * 2, gather.rate quarry * 2, gather.rate excavator * 2 and gather.rate survey * 2. The values save to the plugin's config and survive restarts. Add a stack size plugin, put the rate in your server name, and expect to be listed under Modded.
What you are working with
| Piece | What it does |
|---|---|
| Oxide (uMod) or Carbon | The plugin framework. Rust cannot change gather rates without one |
| Gather Manager | The standard gather rate plugin by Mughisi, from uMod, works on Oxide and Carbon |
| A stack size plugin | Raises stack limits so 3x or 5x resources fit in boxes and inventories |
| A smelting plugin (optional) | Faster furnaces, so smelting keeps up with the extra ore |
server.tags |
Browser tags such as weekly, monthly and your region |
Vanilla Rust has no gather multiplier convar. Anything that changes how much wood, stone or ore a player gets is a plugin, which is also why it decides which browser tab you appear in.

Community or Modded: where will my server be listed?
The Rust server browser has Official, Community, Modded and Vanilla tabs. Facepunch's guidelines for community servers say plugins that change gameplay, including gather rates, kits, shops, smelting and stack sizes, belong in Modded. Changing vanilla convars like team size, decay or populations is fine for Community, but a gather plugin is not.
You do not have to do anything to get there: as soon as Oxide or Carbon is loaded, the server reports itself as modded and appears in the Modded tab. That is where players looking for 2x, 3x and 5x servers search anyway. Put the rate in the server name (for example [EU] Maple 2x | Weekly | Max 4) so it shows in the list, and add tags from the Facepunch server browser tags list, one per group, such as weekly,eu.
Step 1: Switch the server to Oxide or Carbon
Gather Manager runs on either. Carbon loads Oxide plugins too, so pick whichever you prefer. Both need updating after every monthly Rust update, which happens on force wipe day. Back up first if the server already has a world you care about. The framework install itself is covered in how to install Rust plugins with Oxide or Carbon.
Step 2: Upload Gather Manager
- Download
GatherManager.csfrom uMod. - Upload it into
oxide/plugins/on Oxide orcarbon/plugins/on Carbon. No restart needed. - Watch the console for
Loaded plugin Gather Manager. It creates its config on first load:
| Framework | Config file |
|---|---|
| Oxide | oxide/config/GatherManager.json |
| Carbon | carbon/configs/GatherManager.json |
Step 3: Set every gather type
This is where most "2x" servers are wrong. Gather Manager splits gathering into separate types, and each has its own multiplier:
| Type | What it covers | Command for 2x |
|---|---|---|
dispenser |
Hitting trees, ore nodes and animal or player bodies | gather.rate dispenser * 2 |
pickup |
Picking things up: hemp, stones and wood on the ground, mushrooms, corn | gather.rate pickup * 2 |
quarry |
Mining quarry and pump jack output | gather.rate quarry * 2 |
excavator |
The Giant Excavator | gather.rate excavator * 2 |
survey |
Resources from survey charges | gather.rate survey * 2 |
Set only dispenser and the server is 2x on trees and nodes but still 1x on cloth from hemp, quarries and the excavator. Players notice, and a server advertising 2x that is really half 2x loses them. Run all five lines in the server console (or in the F1 console as an admin), changing the number for 3x or 5x.
The * means every resource. To boost one resource only, use its in game name in quotes:
gather.rate dispenser "Sulfur Ore" 3
gather.rate pickup Cloth 3
gather.rate dispenser Wood 2
gather.rate dispenser "Sulfur Ore" remove
remove resets that resource back to the general value. Each command writes to the config file straight away. Players can type /gather in chat to see the current rates.
Rate per hit vs resources per node
dispenser.scale is a different command. It changes how much a tree, ore node or corpse contains (dispenser.scale tree 2), not how much each hit gives. With gather.rate dispenser * 2 a node empties in half the hits. With dispenser.scale ore 2 a node takes the normal hits per swing but lasts twice as long. Most servers use gather.rate and leave dispenser.scale alone.
Quarries also have their own speed: quarry.tickrate 5 is the default seconds between outputs, and excavator.tickrate does the same for the excavator.
Step 4: Raise stack sizes
At 3x and above, vanilla stack limits (1000 wood, 1000 stones in a slot) fill boxes fast. A stack size plugin from uMod, such as Stack Size Controller, lets you set a multiplier for every item category. Carbon also ships optional built in GatherManager and StackManager modules, which are off by default, if you would rather not use plugins for these. A typical match:
| Gather rate | Common stack size multiplier |
|---|---|
| 2x | 2x to 3x |
| 3x | 3x to 5x |
| 5x | 5x to 10x |
Faster smelting (a plugin such as Quick Smelt) is the other change players expect on 3x and higher, otherwise furnaces become the bottleneck.
Step 5: Name, tags and wipe schedule
- Put the rate and team limit in the server name.
- Set
server.tagsto your wipe cycle and region. - Pick a wipe schedule and stick to it. Higher rates mean faster progression, so many 3x and 5x servers wipe weekly. See how to wipe a Rust server.
Common problems
- Server says 2x but hemp and quarries feel normal: only
dispenserwas set. Run thepickup, quarry, excavatorandsurveylines too. - "Invalid resource" when setting one item: the name must match the item's English name, and names with spaces need quotes, like
"Metal Ore". - Rates gone after an update: the plugin failed to load because Oxide or Carbon was not updated with Rust. Update the framework, and the config file still has your values.
- Server not in the Community tab: that is expected with Oxide or Carbon loaded. Gather plugins belong in Modded.
- Boxes full in minutes: add a stack size plugin.
- Players cannot find the server by rate: the rate is not in the name. Rename it.
Gather rates on GamezServers
On a Rust server from GamezServers you pick Oxide or Carbon as the server type in the panel, upload GatherManager.cs with the file manager or SFTP, and type the gather.rate lines in the panel console. The server name is a panel setting, so put your rate there rather than in a config file, and set tags in Server browser tags. Take a one click Backup before wipe day updates. FAQ
How do I make my Rust server 2x?
Install Oxide or Carbon, add the Gather Manager plugin, and run gather.rate with * 2 for the dispenser, pickup, quarry, excavator and survey types.
Can a Rust server with gather rates be in the Community tab?
No. Facepunch's guidelines put servers with gameplay changing plugins, including gather rates, in the Modded tab, and Oxide or Carbon lists you there automatically.
Does Gather Manager work on Carbon?
Yes. Carbon loads Oxide plugins, so GatherManager.cs goes in carbon/plugins/ and works the same way.
What is the difference between gather.rate and dispenser.scale?
gather.rate changes how much each hit or pickup gives. dispenser.scale changes how much a tree, node or corpse holds in total.
