Make someone admin on a Brickadia server with /GrantRole, edit roles in RoleSetup2.json, and use the chat and console commands that keep a build server tidy.

To make someone an admin on a Brickadia server, type /GrantRole Admin PlayerName in chat while you are the server owner or hold a role with permission to grant roles. From the server console the same command is wrapped as br.chat.command /grantrole Admin PlayerName. Roles and what they can do are edited in the in game server settings, and stored in Saved/Server/RoleSetup2.json on the server.

How roles work in Brickadia
Brickadia does not use a plain admin list. It uses roles, and each role is a bundle of permissions: who can build, who can clear other people's bricks, who can kick and ban, who can load worlds, who can change server settings. A player can hold several roles at once.
The owner of the server (the account behind the hosting token) has everything and cannot be locked out. Everyone else starts with the default role, which on a fresh server can build and use most tools. Out of the box you will see roles such as Admin when you run /ListRoles, and you can add your own, such as Builder, Moderator or Guest.
A common setup for a friends build server:
| Role | Typical permissions |
|---|---|
| Default | Build, use tools, join minigames |
| Trusted | Default plus loading saved builds and clearing their own entities |
| Moderator | Kick, clear other players' bricks and entities, freeze physics |
| Admin | Everything except changing the owner |
For a public server, flip it around: make Default unable to build until a moderator promotes them. That one change stops most griefing before it starts.
Granting and removing roles
In game chat (you need the permission yourself):
/GrantRole Admin Steve
/RevokeRole Admin Steve
/ListRoles
/ListPlayers
Names with spaces need quotes, for example /GrantRole Moderator "Big Steve". Run /ListPlayers first to copy the exact name.
From the server console, where there is no chat box, wrap the chat command:
br.chat.command /grantrole Admin Steve
This is the way to hand out the first admin role when nobody on the server has one yet and the owner is not online.
Editing roles and permissions
The comfortable way is in game: press Esc, open the server settings and go to the roles section. Players with permission to manage settings can add roles, rename them, change colors and tick or untick permissions. Changes apply at once.
The file version lives at:
.config/Epic/Brickadia/Saved/Server/RoleSetup2.json
Edit it only with the server stopped, since the running server writes its own copy back. Keep a copy of the original before you start, because a broken JSON file means the server falls back to defaults. Moving a role setup from one server to another is as simple as copying this file across.
Moderation commands
These are the chat commands most admins use daily. /Help lists everything your role can run, and /Help CommandName explains one.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/Kick Player Reason |
Disconnects a player |
/Ban Player Minutes Reason |
Bans a player, with the length in minutes |
/Unban Player |
Lifts a ban |
/ClearBricks Player |
Removes all bricks and entities that player owns |
/ClearAllBricks |
Wipes every brick on the server. Save first. |
/SetSelectionOwner Player |
Hands bricks in your selection to another player, or makes them public |
/BrickCount Player |
Brick count for the server or one player |
/PlayerCount |

Physics and lag control

Brickadia lets players build vehicles and contraptions with real physics. A pile of loose entities is the usual cause of lag on a build server, and these commands deal with it without wiping anyone's work:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/FreezeAllEntities |
Freezes every physics entity in the world |
/FreezeLooseEntities Player |
Freezes that player's unconnected entities |
/ClearAllLooseEntities |
Deletes unconnected entities only |
/ClearAllFarEntities 5000 |
Deletes entities beyond the given distance |
/KillAllBots |
Removes all bots |
Clearing deletes the entities for good, while freezing only stops them moving. Try freezing first.
Teleport and utility commands
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/TP |
Teleport to where you are aiming |
/TP Player |
Teleport to a player |
/TP Player1 Player2 |
Teleport one player to another |
/Back |
Return to where you teleported from |
/Spectator |
Toggle spectator mode |
/JoinTeam Team, /LeaveTeam |
Minigame teams |
World commands from the console
World saving and loading are console commands rather than chat commands:
BR.World.SaveAs townbuild
BR.World.Load townbuild
Save under a new name before a wipe, an event or a big rule change. Our Brickadia hosting guide covers loading a world automatically on startup.
Running this on a hosted server
On a GamezServers Brickadia server, the live console in the panel takes the br.chat.command and BR.World commands directly, so you can grant the first admin role or save the world from your browser without joining. RoleSetup2.json is reachable in the file manager or over SFTP (stop the server first), and a one click backup before a role overhaul means you can roll back if the JSON goes wrong. Our guide to restoring a backup shows how.
FAQ
How do I make myself admin on my own Brickadia server?
You do not need to. The account that owns the hosting token is the server owner and already has every permission. Use /GrantRole to give other people roles.
Why does /GrantRole say I do not have permission?
Your role cannot manage roles. Ask the owner to grant you a role with that permission, or run br.chat.command /grantrole Admin YourName from the server console.
Where are Brickadia roles saved?
In Saved/Server/RoleSetup2.json under the server's .config/Epic/Brickadia folder. Back it up with your worlds.
How do I stop people building until I trust them?
Remove the build permission from the Default role in the server settings, then promote players to a role that can build with /GrantRole.
Does /ClearAllBricks delete my save?
No, it clears the live world. The saved .brdb file stays until you save over it, so you can reload it with BR.World.Load.
